Questions & Answers

As part of my plan to make a tabletop, I would like to join pieces together. The pieces of wood I am using are about an inch thick. These seem to work, but is there any guarantee?

It does not work on 1" stock because these bits have a cutter height of 3/4". In addition, a 1/2" shank set to cut 1" thick wood would be a much more suitable choice. The set for 1" stock that we have currently is not available. But maybe using Yonico 15136 can help you The PrecisionBits company may also be able to manufacture a custom set of bits for you if you need them

I need a 1/8" height bearing for the 1/4" shank bit. Can you advise me what I should get?

If you would like to try precision bits, you can do so. If you have a specific request, please e-mail or call them.

Can you tell me the best use for tongue and groove bits for a new woodworker?

In my experience, a set of tongue and groove router bits is the best choice to use for making your own hardwood flooring. I am using mine to do just that.

What would all the bits be used for if you’re planning on cutting grooves and tongues in 3/4" oak hardwood flooring that has been recycled?

It sounds like they are designed for 3/4" wood specifically, even though I am not an expert on flooring in general. Make sure you are aware. Because these advertised 1/4" shanks, I ordered them to see what they shipped with -- a 1/2" shank, which isn't compatible with

I don't think the bits are the problem
5/5

It's the rookie's first router. Since February to now, I have had the same complaints as everyone else. Well, I learned a lot from making 25 shaker doors. I had difficulty aligning the wood, the wood was burned, I tore out too much wood, etc. In the end the first four went in the trash as there were too many errors, and the fifth was quarter after I learned how to use the router, I still had a lot of trouble. It was the cheapest router available at the time with only one speed. Having just bought a 14-amp Craftsman oven, I found that the alignment issue was resolved as it stayed where I set it to. As soon as you locked it, and sometimes while it was in use, the old one would change. Thus, we were able to align one of the issues. The first thing I learned was how to measure wood at the store, as a sticker that says 3/4 inch doesn't mean what it says. Sometimes one board is 1/32 thicker than the other, and you will never get the correct With the router, your burning issue is no longer an issue since it has both the power and slower RPM to allow for good throughput. Also, I think this bit makes cleaner cuts because there is less vibration. Still using this bit and I'm finally happy with the product I am making. I'm down to the last seven drawer fronts, and then my kitchen will be done.

(For light use) this is great
4/5

I used it for my needs and it worked well. The only thing I used it on were soft pines, and it worked fine, but anything tougher would probably be problematic. In the instructions, it was noted that you should only route one quarter inch at a time. THIS My board was destroyed after I cut just half the thickness and the kickback almost threw it through my garage door when I left it to that, feeling lazy. I believe even if you took off less at once, you could cut harder woods, but it would basically slow your project down, and if your board moves around at all during the deeper cuts, it would mess up the shallower cuts too. As a general rule, it can be sufficient for the casual DIYer, but if you have any plans to work with anything harder than pine or plan on using it regularly, invest in a higher quality.

It was disappointing
3/5

There is a rapid dulling of the color. As for my expectations, they were high. The hopes were dashed by a number of factors. As for the tongue cutters, I would say they are probably at zero. This 74" wide board is just a shade smaller than a normal 3/4" board. This means that there is always a thin strip at the top or bottom of a plate. There is nothing major about this, but it is The worst part of this is that after about 5' of poplar is run through it, the edges of the boards start to burn. Does it dull over time? The truth is I don't The answer is I don't The ends of my board are burning even when I feed them into it in small pieces. The tool sounds dull, as if it's getting old.

The 1/2" sheath is good, but get the larger one Having just received my first tongue and groove set, I am excited to use them
4/5

It's the scariest bits I've ever worked with, but I do like them Vibration is a big issue with them, so they will cause quite a bit of noise. I'd like to give you my hand Down router and table really aren't the best for the job, and before I could safely use them I had to bolt things down and make sure that they were secure. Despite that, I still felt as if there was more slop in the joint than I had anticipated. seems that there is a problem in my set-up (the bits, based on an inspection out of the box, appear to be in good shape). I'm not sure how the vibrations in my case will impact the size of the cut, but other reviewers reported that they ended up with larger cuts than they wanted. If you do decide to seat them, make sure they are seated as deeply in the collet as possible (the instructions say whatever percentage you inserted must be inserted, but I say In the meantime, since I cannot afford a better router and table, this is all I can get for now. If you have the money, go for the 1/2" shank version instead of They are such huge heads, it is scary to think that only 1/4" of metal holds them up! It would also be nice to have a variable-speed router (so you could slow it down if it becomes too fast). My router is not variable-speed. For now, I won't be using them very much until I can upgrade to something that will be useful. If you want to use these with a hand-held router, don't even dare.

It is best to rate durability in the negative
3/5

My router base was completely wrecked thanks to this Tongue and Groove bit! NEARLY went to the hospital because of this router bit. An item like this is too dangerous to be sold by anyone, especially Amazon. It is made out of inferior materials and should be avoided! The Router base you owe me needs to be replaced! I will never, ever, ever recommend this item to anyone! There is too much risk involved and an injury to the user can result!.

It is fine to use 1/4 inch shanks
5/5

The 1/4 inch shank was one of the reasons I hesitated to purchase these because I had read so many negative reviews. They fit my craftsman router and router table that have 1/4 inch shanks, so it made sense to take a chance on them. It was a pleasant surprise to see how well these router bits performed. A shake or burn took place but the wood was not burned. In fact, they did very well on 3/4-inch wood and made very nice tongue and grooves. The sides of a vanity or cabinet can be made from these, or cabinet doors can be made with them.

There are no problems with the set
4/5

This set of three is okay for the price, but they're a little too heavy for 1/4" shanks. If you plan to cut tongues and grooves in hardwood such as oak, a 1/4" shank probably isn't strong enough, and it's even more so if it's a hard wood. As instructed, the shank must be inserted 80% of its length into the collett on my Craftsman router, but I was unable to do so. Despite my router being so large and heavy, I had difficulty using it because the tongue bit vibrated. At Home Depot, I checked several other cabinets, but they were not deep enough, so I was unable to use it as specified. For the grooves, I bought another router with a 1/2" collet and a Bosch tongue bit for it, and I used it to cut the tongues and this one to cut the tongues with.

Gluing boards together is no longer a hassle with this bit
5/5

Its high quality and low price make it a great choice. Using this bit mounted on a router table, four boards can be edge-treated in about 60 seconds for perfect glue adhesion. If you plane all boards to uniform thickness prior to running the edge treatment, it will work most effectively. You can use narrow boards at 3" - 3 1/2" if you want to build furniture from solid wood, but you will not experience the warping or twisting that comes with it. Join them with this bit so that they are 4 inches wide. You will have a strong and stable wide panel at the end of the project. Having a wider final panel than what your planer can handle is even better. If you begin with uniform thickness, the only thing you have to do after the boards are glued will be light sanding. It is a great investment in better solid wood furniture, and it will save you money over time due to the cheaper cost per board foot of narrower boards.
