Lumber that is 1 inch thick is not 1 inch thick. While it provides the intended functionality, the design does not account for the fact that most wood, whether trim wood or otherwise, is not its nominal size. A board that is 1 inch thick is not 1 inch thick. The purpose of this tool was to route the ends of my pre-made chains With straight ends, made window sills are available. By routing the ends rather than miter cutting and attaching a piece, less lumber would be wasted and the procedure would be less tedious. As long as I adjust the depth to match the concave section of the design and most of the bull nose, I can match the size. After that, I sanded the edge to blend it into the wood, and the difference in shape is not noticeable. Ultimately, the bit does what it's designed for and I have not encountered any problems with its quality on the job, but if the manufacturer had thought about the actual size of lumber rather than nominal sizes, it would have been a better product. It works if you put in a little extra effort. My plan is to locate unfinished lumber that is actually one inch thick and router all of the boards myself, but that would probably cost more than finger-jointed or MDF boards which are pre-routed I made it.
I used this in place of an existing window sill I was copying, and it worked as expected. I cannot figure out why it has the attached bearing for the life of me. As far as I can tell, it has no application at all.
I like it.
1" window sills made with traditional methods.
It stands out as the top of the line product. Built into the basecap of the sills it works perfectly.
