The Kutzall Original tools are a bit smoother in operation, and less aggressive, while the Kutzall Extreme are less susceptible to loading with materials, and more aggressive. If you lighten up on the pressure, you can achieve a smoother finish with any of the tools. If you are going to choose between the Original and Extreme 'Coarse', you won't be disappointed.

This tool consumes wood like a giant termite on crack cocaine
5/5

If you're doing major shaping and need to remove copious amounts of wood, then this is the tool for you. The piece was ordered so that I could do some sculpture on a large log. In fact, it leaves a much smoother surface than I would have guessed. It is still not perfectly smooth, but a flap disk will quickly sand it back to the original state. A word of caution Wear heavy leather gloves and use caution. As I caught a finger with it, I observed neither my finger nor my glove doing If you let it take hold of you, it will not let go.

Klutzall's Extreme Shaping Dish, on the other hand, works well
4/5

The Kutzall Extreme Shaping Dish is one that I purchased, and I have used it over a dozen times on White Birch, Yellow Birch, Ash, If you do not have a lathe, the tool removes material well and is reasonably priced. However, I must warn you that the amount of dust that is generated when using the Kutzall Extreme Shaping Dish is staggering. As an example, I'm only able to use this for about five minutes at a time due to the high level of fine dust, which is very irritating to In my experience, no matter how many safety glasses and no matter how many masks/respirators I tried (all highly rated for woodworking/dust), NOT one of them kept dust out properly. In about five minutes, you'll be more comfortable if you wash out your eyes and walk/run away to get more The SOMETHING that is most important to note is that this is OUTDOOR tool and I would not recommend it for use indoors due to In one of my carvings, I used a 10-inch piece of birch I dumped dust in an inch bowl outside in the yard, and it was so thick that when it settled on the ground, the grass could not grow until it was raked over and replanted It's a new patch of grass I just seeded. The whole thing came at the cost of a tenner This bowl measures 8 inches! If you are going to use it outdoors, make sure you wear an oxygen supplied face shield or respirator! They don't come with oxygen, but these types of breathing apparatus start at $250!.

It is a class all its own
5/5

I am a big fan of this wood shaping wheel since its teeth have a very unique design. Currently, I use this tool to shape walking sticks and canes, but I've seen how easy it can be to remove wood with precision that I might want to try bigger projects. The machine allows for great control while removing a lot of material. The gum chews effortlessly when I gently press on it. When you press down on it, it cuts fast, and I've overdone it a couple times by accident. Perhaps, if carving bears from logs or something, the medium grit would be preferable, but I have the medium, and this fine grit is the one I'd keep if I had to choose I would think that this was 30 grit or something like that, not fine like sand paper. You can now use your wood rasp to touch up wood. There is now a "Fine" that comes in a flatter design, and that might actually be better for some applications if you want to leave more level surfaces. The $60 price tag is a bit high, but when it allows you to work with wood at this speed and accuracy, it more than doubles my speed with little effort and gives me a whole lot more joy, so I quickly make up for the added expense. This gives me a sense of doing art as opposed to just doing work. You're working. Angle grinders are easy to use because all you need to do is hold them firmly while the wheel does the rest. My angle grinder works great as a bench grinder with my wood vice. I have used it a few times in damp wood or green pithy wood, but using a propane blow torch to clean it quickly with a wire brush takes care of the areas that need some work. Additionally, this thing appears to last forever, meaning I won't have to change wheels or buy new ones for a long time. As a final note, it leaves wood more smooth than the "medium", as you might expect, but its amount of wood removed is nearly the same because it has more teeth, I would think. My update will come later after I become more familiar with them. I think both are amazing. GOGGLES ARE A MUST. It took only a split second for me to remove a piece of skin from my finger. A sanding disk can be a bit more forgiving, this one.

It is ideal for wood that is dry
5/5

Despite its fantastic ability to shape dry wood, it is not suitable for shaping green or wet wood. Plugging up immediately and being difficult to clean, it does not work on either. Recently I worked with a piece of spalted maple that was rather fragile, and this was the perfect tool for the job. As well, I prefer using this on Ipe, which is hard like a rock and difficult to use gouges on. In comparison to chain saw cutters I still need to use on lumber that is still green, this cutter is much more controllable. I do not use the grinder guard on this disk since it gets in the way. It is a problem to have sawdust in the air The use of gloves as well as masks and face shields is essential. A grinder with a paddle switch, an apron, hearing protection, and a protective mask complete my equipment. It is an HF grinder that I am using.

When the shiny finish wears off, the device works great
3/5

Using this method, I was able to cut down old, dried chestnut logs to good, clean wood for a cabin. The tool seemed like nothing short of a miracle at first, slicing through Knots can be ground down with this grinder. It proved to be a challenging tool to work with after a few hours. In my opinion, I would buy this product again, since it is so effective until it starts to dull, and I do not know of a better alternative. For the price, however, I might expect it to last a little You could use it for light job, like making a chair seat, if you want to use it for that. This is not the best choice for heavy duty applications on log cabins, such as use on a fence post.

I am speechless! A disk like this is incredible it moves wood like nothing else
5/5

A couple of weeks ago my wife asked me if she could use an oak log that was about 18 inches by 2 feet. Using this tool, I was able to lose 8 inches in just over three hours (I'm 70, so I needed breaks). The product didn't clog, but I was amazed at the smooth finish it produced. This one is quite coarse, but it produced a lot of dust while the product was running. Always take the right because this bugger will kick back if you take the left. I still have to figure out how to get a spanner wrench to fit flat to remove it as a result of the deep dish design. As far as I can tell, this tool does not seem to be.
