By contrast, the actual worksharp belts are manufactured in the USA and last much longer. The longer the better.
My Benchmade 154CM knife as well as 4 of my medium and large kitchen knives used them. Only 5 strokes per side were needed to create an even and very nice edge on each knife. The removal of material and the sharpening are in good balance. Even after 5 knives, these belts still showed very little signs of wear. There is no clearance between the roller and guard / guide on my WorkSharp machine. In addition (not the belt's fault), after the 320 grit, I had to refine the surface with 800, 1000, and a leather strop. It gave me the edge I desired.
I bought these for my Work Sharp WSKTS, but they weren't to my taste. My most serious complaint is with the coarse (green belt). It is too thick and stiff, so it rubs against the guard or does not spin at all, so you can hear the motor laboring and it rubs along the front guard. The fine belt seems to work okay. It was difficult to spin one of the heavy medium grits with the guard because of the small space between the grit and the guard. Since there is not much tension on the spring loaded tensioner pulley, it appears all the belts could be a little shorter. If any of the belts stretch, they will not work. The two packs I bought were trying to be cheap instead of purchasing Work Sharp brand, thought I could save some I plan to send them back, think they will end up costing me more money and trouble in the long run, especially since I will not be able to use the Coarse Belt. A two star rating due to the finer thinner belts that may work with the thinner belts and the good shipping.
It is a pleasure to use these belts. Sharpening effectively can be done with the 600 grit belts, and a mirror finish can be achieved with the 5000 grit belts. The 5000 grit belts can be used as spiros once the abrasives are used up. The stropping compound can be put on them to make them work like strops. criticism I would have is that one of the 5000 grit belts was out of order and not able to be used.
There are better belts out there, but these are not the best. Honestly, I think that only the 5000 grit did not work well for me. I think that was the biggest milestone for me. However, I was contacted by a customer service representative from Red Label Abrasives after I told them that I was not satisfied with the belts. I was refunded in full after a single conversation with them. The customer service at Belt Sharpening is excellent. So, if you have a problem with your sharpening belt, I can attest to that.
As a step halfway between the fine and medium belts included with the Work Sharp tool, the 800 grit makes a nice intermediate step. If you want to replace the fine belts that come with the Work Sharp kit, the 5000 grit would be a good choice. Considering their price and quality, these belts may be of good.
A better supply of medium grit belts would be helpful. The belt lasted only a few seconds before it was shredded. Continuing with the belt, it lasted less than two knives and was just in need of a touch up. One thing to note is that this is a medium of 320x240. There are two original belts, each with a grit of 220.
Be careful for they do as they are designed to. An old manchette was really scratched and dull to the touch. My grits were becoming finer and finer as time went on. It has been returned to you in perfect.
