Questions & Answers

What makes the 55227 different from the 55242?

The drill bit diameter is smaller and the overall length of 55227 is shorter. br>br>In addition, 55227 corresponds to a 6 wood screw, while 55242 corresponds to a 10 wood screw.

Is this depth stop compatible with a multiple-size bit set?

No, the bit is only 3/16". However, if a larger hole is required, the 3/16" will serve as a pilot hole that can be enlarged later.

Is this for a total of ten deck screws? It's a mess. Wasn't it supposed to be a 1/8 bit?

This is for a drill with a diameter of 3/16". It's not a 1/8-inch drill bit. br>For a 10 wood screw, it's a little too big. I used it to drill a pass through hole in the decking board, all the way down to the joist.

What is the actual angle of the cutting angle, which is listed as 82 degrees in one place and 49 degrees in another?

The angle between the flat work piece and the drill bit's center line is 90°. There is a 49-degree angle between the work piece and the cutting edge. The remaining 41 degrees are measured from the cutting edge to the drill bit's vertical center line, so 41 plus 41 equals 82 degrees.

Countersink of the highest quality
5/5

The cost is justified by the value. Drilling multiple, precise countersunk holes is a breeze with this tool. Unlike other combination drill bit countersinks, it won't clog up with wood chips or sawdust, which can be a problem with some woods like Ipe. The only thing that could be better is if the straight bit was replaced with a tapered wood screw bit that could accommodate different screw sizes. But I get by by switching to a taper bit of the required size after drilling the initial countersunk hole.

This is a very clever tool that performs a critical function
5/5

This is a very clever tool that performs a vital function flawlessly. I'm using this to countersink plywood for 1/4 inch machine screws, despite the fact that I bought a 3/16 inch size. After that, I have to enlarge the bore to fit the 1/4" screw, but the countersink is always perfect; one advantage of the smaller initial hole size is that any veneer tearout will most likely be covered by the countersink diameter. Forming a large enough countersink for the 1/4 machine screw head is not difficult for me. When hand-tightening the screw, I set the depth stop a little higher than maximum, so the head of the screw sits a little proud. When you torque it, the wood compresses a little and the head sits flush with the surface. A 1/4" screw head can be sunk lower than flush because there is enough countersink diameter.

Tooling of high quality
5/5

I'm making a porch swing, and I'll need about a hundred silicon bronze screws flush with the oak surface. After tinkering with an old B, I've come to a conclusion. I ordered this bit because I had a D countersink bit with a slipping collar. I've had good luck with Amana router bits, and this one was no exception; it worked flawlessly to countersink to the same precise depth every time. Yes, it is pricey. Worth it? YES.

It's alright, but not outstanding
3/5

This does a good job of what it's supposed to do, but it has a few flaws. br>The most noticeable of these is that the bit is slightly off-kilter (it wobbles). It's not a huge difference, but it's significant enough to cause issues. Fortunately, I only needed this to drill holes for toggle bolts, so the flaws are tolerable. You can also shorten the bit to make it less noticeable, which will help with the problem. br>The other issue is that it leaves a small mark. This is most likely due to the first problem, which is that it wobbles. The stopper would not move around and mark the wood if it was perfectly straight and center. The marks, however, are minor and can be removed with some light sanding.

This is an amazing tool
5/5

This tool is high quality professional grade, just like all of my other Amana tool products (primarily shaper cutters and cutter heads). I needed something that could cut through holes and counter sinks in ipe (a very hard wood) to a consistent depth. This lovely tool does a fantastic job; the through hole drill bit is carbide, and you just need to set your drill press to the right speed (I'm not drilling freehand), but it's simple to use. They're also long-lasting, with replacement drill bits and countersinks available. br>The reviewer who claims the bit wobbles seems off to me; perhaps the chuck he used to mount this drill in wobbled. In mine, there are no wood markings or wobbles.

This countersink has made me very happy
5/5

It was used in a drill press to drill 800 holes in a 1-inch thick piece of plywood. There are 200 boards with four holes each, each 1/2 inch thick pine board. I didn't notice any bit wobble, which was mentioned by one reviewer. The depth stop left a small mark on some boards, but it was in soft pine, so it was barely noticeable and easily sanded away. I can't think of anything negative to say about this countersink.

However, I adore the product
4/5

I've been purchasing Amana tools for quite some time and am very pleased with their quality. In this particular case, I had planned ahead of time. The bit snapped as I was drilling a hole. Out of shock, I examined the bit, which had a flaw. It was very simple to change, so don't be concerned. Everything else about the product is excellent and functions properly.
