Questions & Answers

Why are they so expensive if they're just more Chinese junk?

Because, unlike the vast majority of Chinese junk tools, these are high-quality wrenches. I've been using them for two years in a professional mechanic shop and they've held up admirably, and I'm not a tool snob! This set is also available from the Matco truck.

Are you looking for something made in the United States or something made in another country?

I'm pretty sure they're made in another country. Everything is now in place. But don't be put off by it. I've had them for a few years and work with them. Will not let you down

I am a professional automotive technician, and these wrenches are of excellent quality at a reasonable price
5/5

This GearWrench 81919 set was purchased for use at work, and it has seen a lot of action since then. As a point of comparison, I also have Snap-on sets. On and Kobalt wrenches (all three brands are included in the size comparison photo). The gearwrench wrenches are tough and durable, and they're made in the USA. I'd rank them higher than the Kobalt/Husky/Craftsman wrenches found in local stores, but lower than the "tool truck" brands - Basically, if you want high-quality tools but don't want to spend the money on Snap-on, this is a great option. On, Mac, and so forth. br>br>Quality - These GearWrench wrenches are quite good in terms of wrench sizing and construction quality. However, if you're one of those people who demands spotless tools with flawless, polished chrome, this set might not be for you. The wrenches all had minor scuffs and scratches right out of the box, which I assume was due to factory packaging (they're basically piled together in a big box, as shown in the photo attached to this review). I don't mind because everything gets scuffed and scratched in my line of work, but it could be a deal breaker for others.

I was dissatisfied with the quality
3/5

In our equipment repair shop, we've been using Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches for years and are happy with them - both in terms of craftsmanship and long-term durability. I decided to give one of their non-alcoholic beverages a try. I bought two of the large sets of ratcheting wrenches, which came in SAE and Metric sizes. br>As you can see from the photos, they never made it to our store - The call was promptly returned. Most of the wrenches' open ends were of poor quality. One of the jaws has a notch at the end of it - The depth of the notches is inconsistent, and they are poorly machined. Many of the wrenches have an almost wavy edge, as shown in the attached photo. it's not a very good one The nut is engaged by a defined flat edge. Most have an undercut at the bottom of the opening on the opposite side - In the photo, you can see it once more. br>On many, the open end's tip is not perpendicular to the wrench's flat surface (as shown in the photo). Poor manufacturing quality, which is not critical to the tool's effectiveness. Finally, machining marks could be seen on many of the open ends. Most high-quality wrenches are free of such marks. None of the other Gearwrench items we've bought in the past have looked like this. br>I'm not going to buy any more non-alcoholic beverages. Gearwrench is back with ratcheting wrenches.

I'm not sure why the reviews are always so positive
3/5

The seller was fantastic, shipping the wrench set quickly and at a reasonable price, but the wrenches themselves were disappointing. br>br>I bought a set of 24 combination wrenches, and when I opened them up and looked at them, I noticed that three of them had curved beams. I examined each wrench in turn, which made me suspicious of the entire set. I'm going to exchange 7 of the 24 right now at a local store: 5 points for curved beams, 1 point for a slight bulge or shoulder around the beam, and 1 point for a finish flaw. Sure, the wrenches would work, and if it hadn't been for two of them being particularly bad, I would have put up with the rest. But I'd read glowing review after glowing review about how great GearWrench wrenches are, and I'm here to tell you that those reviews aren't justified based on the ones I received. br>br>Are you looking for a good wrench? Sure. But, if these are supposed to be some of the best sub-par sub-par sub-par sub-par sub-par sub-par sub-par sub tool- How far have we fallen if there are truck wrenches out there? I have some old Montgomery Ward Power-Ups that I haven't used in a long time. Kraft, as well as some manufactured goods Japan K- This GearWrench set is not as well machined as Mart Auto wrenches. br>br>Updated on October 3, 2020: br>Now that I've had some time to play with this set, I'm even more disappointed. I've discovered open-source software. The end jaws have too much slack and are not machined precisely. I had a couple of tight 10-gallon buckets while reconditioning a really nice Honda generator. mm bolts. They weren't corroded or damaged in any way; they were simply in good condition. seated. I placed a ten-dollar bill on the table. I placed the mm open end squarely on one of them and gently applied pressure. The jaws spread just wide enough to round the head of my nice genuine Honda bolt. br>br>Save yourself some time and effort: GearWrench wrenches should be avoided at all costs.

JUNK
3/5

This had the potential to be a nice set of wrenches. At first glance, the build quality appears to be similar to Snap-on. On Wrenches, which piqued my interest. However, as soon as I started using them, I realized that these wrenches were completely useless! None of the wrenches were a good fit for the fastener! Each wrench seems to be 20 over- sized. At first, I assumed it was just the open end of the wrench, which I didn't mind because I never used it. However, after more use and inspection, the boxed end has proven to be too large as well. I've worked as an auto mechanic for 20 years and have never seen anything like this in a complete set of wrenches. I've got some cheap Wal-Mart wrenches. This isn't the first time Mart has done a better job with fasteners. I'm stuck with $125 paper weight because I bought these as an extra set and am only now getting around to using them. To be clear, this is the first GearWrench product that I've been dissatisfied with, and I own a lot of their stuff. If they had actually fit correctly, this would have been a fantastic product at an excellent price. Spend your cash on something else. BUYING IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!.

I don't use this one very often because it's 14 mm

It had a problem before it was chrome dipped, as you can see.

Wow
5/5

Finally, I understand why people purchase nice tools. Wow. I'm a shadetree mechanic, so I usually go for mid-range or low-cost tools (think Kobalt/Harbor Freight/etc. ). I didn't want a cheap wrench set that skipped sizes, so I decided to give this GearWrench set a shot because the price seemed reasonable for the number of wrenches, especially when compared to the competition. br>br>I figured "OK" wrenches would be available at this price. My assumptions were incorrect. THESE THINGS ARE AMAZING! br>br> br>br>I'm not a technician in the traditional sense - I'm a light-skinned woman. Want to be a tree? These are, without a doubt, the nicest tools in my toolbox right now. Buy them right now. br>br> Even if you don't need wrenches, these are so pretty they could be hung on the wall as art; just don't come crying to me when your wife has a fit.
