With this tap and die, I was able to fix a plumbing fixture on my trailer from 1966. I broke a stem under the faucet in a brass adapter, so I drilled out the adapter with a drill and chased the threads with a Next, I used the die to create new threads that were shorter yet still long enough to work on the stem. We were forced to do this because brass $5 adapters were no longer made. The rest of the metals I do not know. This one cost the least of all the sets I bought, so it made sense to buy it.
The size of the outside is not told to you either. There is no way to use this die with a standard die holder for 1", 1 5/16", etc. The die measures 30MM on the outside. It was just recently I got around to trying it out, and of course the return deadline has passed.

The tools I purchased were to be used on my 71 F600 to rethread the wheel cylinder and brake line. I had no problems with either.
