Questions & Answers

In order to dress at 180 grit and then 400 grit, do you need to swap the positions of the stones? Or can you just dress at 180 grit ?

Then 180 on each side, then 400 on each side

Is this method suitable for sharpening knives with different angles of sharpening?

Make sure the stone is in the right position on the bevel by removing the blades and making sure the stone is accurately positioned. I always remove the blades from my machine because it has clearance for them. There are some gauges available on Amazon that can remove the hassle of adjusting blades over and over.

Go back to work and sharpen the blades
5/5

The blades of the planer/jointer can be removed by using a magnet. Be careful not to touch the edges of the blade, as they can be dangerously The blade should be held in a jig. With the dull edge extended, loosely attach the blade to the handle (see images). With two tiny wood screws, I attached the scrap 2x6 to the scrap 2x6. Attached a board to a table with clamps. In order to sharpen the blade edge, I colored the dull edge with a wide Sharpie pen so that I can see where the low areas are. Be very aware of where your fingers are at all times as you GENTLY pull the stone down the edge of the blade. To keep the stone at your fingertips, always pull it toward you Be careful not to While I sat down, I braced myself with the other hand. With a very LIGHT touch, you will be able to detect where the high and low points are Low areas are indicated by low areas. Several passes are made, we check the ink on the edge, and then we repeat until there is a continuous new From 10 to You should be able to pass it 20 times. Sharpening with the course stone on the angled side of the sharpener was my choice. Green is the color of both stones. You can easily tell the difference between the stones by looking at the end grain (see example picture). This is the course stone that I am pointing at. To finish, you can lightly smooth the edge of the blade with the fine stone. By applying a magnet to the blade, you will move it! Scalpel sharp! I have very sharp blades! The quieter my planer runs and the easier it is to use There is no variation in the shavings. You have time to take your time and think about it You should be cautious. I love the way this tool works.

A lot easier than you might think to use, and it does its job well
4/5

If you've got a complaint about this, that means 1) you don't know how to use it, or 2) you After a few minutes of using this, I was able to sharpen some dull blades that were on a jointer I was given. The right type of honing oil is essential when using this hone for occasional blade touchups. That's good news.

There may be some differences between the two items
3/5

There were no instructions that came with the item and the packaging was different. It does not appear that there are any differences in grit between the two sides of a stone. No solution other than returning it and purchasing another product it is hard to decide what to do about this.

It gives you a sharp edge without taking a lot of time
5/5

My goal was to make my own for about 2 months but don't know when I will. It looked like a good deal, so I decided to give it a go. This is the perfect product for what it is intended In terms of sharpening, it will not do the job but for cleaning things up, it works nicely. That will save me a lot of time in the long run. Please accept my sincere thanks.

5/5

I highly recommend this inexpensive tool due to its high quality. You do not have to remove and reset the knives while using this sharpener. It is very easy to use and offers superior results when sharpening planer and jointer knives. I am very pleased with this.

Easy to use but very difficult to navigate. It keeps slipping off of the Take off your glasses, it takes a few more minutes to do so, but it is better for your eyes. The first time I opened it was two days ago after purchasing it months The return window for my order has expired.

The part is solid and works well
5/5

This product does exactly what it says. I have only one complaint. It's a bit difficult to use due to its length, which is at least an issue It's almost half the size I would like it to be.

This is a great purchase
5/5

I had a nick in my blade and this took it out in a few minutes. My jointer was sharpened to a great degree with this sharpener. The only problem was that I sliced my fingers by being too careless! This is a product that I would definitely repurchase.
