For the money, this is an excellent tool
5/5

I gave it five stars because it is an excellent value for money tool. Because it was shipped from England, it took some time to arrive, so I used a machinist square and a straight edge to inspect all of the surfaces. The flats are not dead flat (which they don't need to be), and the edges are perfectly 90 degrees. My Tormek's blade was razor sharp, so I polished it to a mirror shine (the mirror finish, in my experience, helps it stay sharper longer and feels nice). The furniture is in excellent condition and has a polyurethane finish. While I own some higher-level tools, such as Veritas, and this tool isn't on that level, I believe they aren't required. In my opinion, this tool performs just as well overall. The No. The number 3 is less than that of the number one. 4 (Stanley numbering system), and I find it extremely useful for smoothing small work pieces/surfaces or in tight spaces. In addition, it completes a gap in my collection. Making wood shavings with my planes is my favorite part of the job, and it also serves as a great stress reliever for me. br>br>If you have a limited budget, don't want to restore vintage planes, or simply want a hardworking plane, this is an excellent choice. Sharpening is required for all planes, either immediately or later (on a daily basis). So I don't consider that a drawback. With that in mind, these planes are excellent because they are inexpensive and allow you to invest a small amount of money in a sharpening system, which is essential for all of your cutting tools. Sharp tools, regardless of their name, simply perform better. My two cents are as follows: br>br> Good luck and have fun.

It's a strange combination of quality and crass irresponsibility
3/5

First and foremost, for the price, and assuming you're willing to put in some effort, it's probably a good deal. br>br>I only got mine yesterday, so I'm hoping to find out more, but br>br>The machined surfaces are beautiful. The brass fittings are thick and knurled on the inside. It's a big casting. The wood is nice, and the iron is ground consistently. However, there is a lot of nonsense. br>br> br>br>Because the chip breaker is too long (or the retractor is bent), the iron is unable to be retracted into the body. The frog doesn't move all the way forward on a smoothing plane, which is important so that the mouth is super small. br>br>At its minimum depth setting, it will make a cut that is way too deep for a smoothing plane, maybe for work of any kind. br>br> They also shipped the iron and chipbreaker loose in the box, which nicked the knob in a bunch of places. br>br>They also shipped the iron and chipbreaker loose in the box, which nicked the knob in a bunch of places. br>br>They also shipped the iron and chipbreaker loose in the box, which nicked the knob in a bunch of places. br>br> This isn't a major flaw, but it does represent the way the plane was built. They produced some excellent work, but they also made a number of poor choices.

The quality of the materials is excellent
3/5

Some aspects of craftsmanship are lacking. I ordered two of these by accident so that I could see how consistent they are in their production. The quality of the materials is excellent. Some aspects of craftsmanship are lacking. 1: br>br>2: br>br>3: br>br>4: Handle was cocked at a 90-degree angle and was not vertical. br>2: The chip breaker screw's centering hole and the blade's rectangular cut where the cap screw slides up and down were not centered and did not line up. The blade was pushed to one side of the plane as a result of this.
3: The lateral adjustment lever was machined with a hole in the middle. br>With these planes, this is a common issue. I have four more of these in my possession.
4: The sides of the cap iron are not parallel to one another. 90 degrees, to be precise.
5: The frog adjustment washer is too large and wedges into the frog. However, this is something that can be addressed. br>br>I hope that this company makes an effort to center and refine the dimensions. br>These issues are difficult to resolve; once they board the plane, they are no longer in control. br>br>It's critical for them to make sure that everything, including the Lateral adjustment lever and the chip breaker's fit to the blade, is symmetrical and moves in the same way from side to side. br>br>When on the plane, the frog must also be symmetrical. The screws' taps must also be in the center. This was a different issue. br> br>br>When one thing is off center, it causes another thing to be off center, which is inconvenient.

In a small desk plane, this is a great deal
4/5

The cost was reasonable, and the quality was excellent. So, aside from basic tube tightening and flattening, I had no trouble flattening the sole and dimensioning 2x4s. For shavings as thin as paper, the blade takes a fine edge and stays sharp. Overall, this turned out to be a great deal. It's always on hand in my store. After buying several planes that received mixed reviews, the lessons I'm learning haven't changed.
1. Return defective tools but purchase them for a low price.
2. Make use of any hand plane to flatten and sharpen the surface. It is still necessary to properly fit the cap iron.
3. Keep the berry lightly oiled 3 in 1. br>Wishing you all the best.

I was disappointed
3/5

Today, the plane arrived. Poor quality of construction. The blade assembly does not seat properly to the frog, the chip breaker is not ground properly and thus does not seat against the blade, and the front knob is crooked and not seated properly. There are a lot of casting pits in the cap iron casting. It was a waste of money. I'm returning it to get my money back.
