Selected User Reviews For Faithfull No 10 Rebate Plane

For the money, this is an excellent tool
5/5

I gave it five stars because it is an excellent value for money tool. Because it was shipped from England, it took some time to arrive, so I used a machinist square and a straight edge to inspect all of the surfaces. The flats are not dead flat (which they don't need to be), and the edges are perfectly 90 degrees. My Tormek's blade was razor sharp, so I polished it to a mirror shine (the mirror finish, in my experience, helps it stay sharper longer and feels nice). The furniture is in excellent condition and has a polyurethane finish. While I own some higher-level tools, such as Veritas, and this tool isn't on that level, I believe they aren't required. In my opinion, this tool performs just as well overall. The No. The blade of the 10 is wider than the plane's body, indicating that it is a rebate plane. It allows you to get close to rebate corners. It's the same length as a No. The No. 5 and the No. 5's width 3 and it's quite effective. In addition, it completes a gap in my collection. Making wood shavings with my planes is my favorite part of the job, and it also serves as a great stress reliever for me. br>br>The size of the Tote (main handle) is my only complaint about the tool. It's the same size as the one I got when I called their number. 3 is sufficient for the small No. 3 and a little too small and uncomfortable for the larger No. I'll probably make a new one out of a Stanley template at some point. However, I have large hands, so it's not that bad. br>br>If you have a limited budget, don't want to restore vintage planes, or simply want a hardworking plane, this is an excellent choice. Sharpening is required for all planes, either immediately or later (on a daily basis). So I don't consider that a drawback. With that in mind, these planes are excellent because they are inexpensive and allow you to invest a small amount of money in a sharpening system, which is essential for all of your cutting tools. Sharp tools, regardless of their name, simply perform better. My two cents are as follows: br>br> Good luck and have fun.

Once it's tuned up, I'll give it five stars
5/5

As others have stated, once tuned, this is a nice plane. My plane's body was squarely machined, but it needed some lapping to be completely flat. A lot of work was required on the blade. It wasn't particularly flat, and the cutting edge appeared to have been ground with a 200-grit grinding wheel at the factory. I used a jig to hold the back at precisely 25 degrees on 1200/3000/6000 grit water stones after lapping and polishing it. I spent well over an hour polishing and sharpening the blade. Other minor nits. br>br> Anti-skid material was applied to the plane's body. corrosion-resistant lacquer It was cleaned up with a quick acetone wipe. Cutting oil was left over from the manufacturing process on the blade and several other parts. Acetone was used to clean them up as well. It was also necessary to tighten the handle. Both of the screws had come out of their sockets. All of this, however, is minor. It's a fantastic plane for the money, and with a little work, it could be even better.

Whether you're on a budget or not is a question that needs to be addressed
5/5

This is a Jack Rabbet Carriage Plane of the highest quality. When I saw this No. 1, I was a little skeptical. I was hesitant to buy a plane for such a low price, but since all other similar and vintage models were at least three times the price, I decided to take a chance. It came from the United Kingdom (India, perhaps?). ) and was delivered on time and in good condition-- Without a doubt, during a pandemic. I measured the base and sides with an engineer's square and found that they were both 90 degrees. After removing the protective rust-resistant varnish, the square fit snugly. I couldn't see any light between the square and the sole, as if I'd used lacquer thinner. I tested it without sharpening the blade and found it to be fine, but I had to flatten the back of the iron and hone the bevel to the desired 25 degrees, as with all new planes. That is exactly what I did. br>br>The sole was then flattened. Despite the fact that I found it to be ideal for my needs (there were a few shallow spots in non-sealed areas), I knew I'd be writing this review, so I flattened it to perfection. The toe section of the base was slightly higher than the rest of the base, but that was easily fixed*. To make it perfectly flat, I sanded it with 150 grit garnet sandpaper, then a 300 grit diamond stone. It was flat after 20 minutes on each of them. br>br>I inserted the iron and cap, tightened the cap screw 1/4 turn, balanced the blade, and put it through its paces on a few boards. It worked flawlessly, with no issues or tears! The blade depth adjuster was about the same tightness as on my vintage Stanleys and was easy to adjust, resulting in consistent and visible shavings. on the lightest of depths, through thin It left a smooth surface, similar to the smoothing planes I used. the blade quality is a little worrying to me, br>br> Because this is a specialty plane, it may not be a major issue because it isn't used as frequently. If you really want to turn this thing into a top-notch tool, Hock Tools makes a blade and chip breaker that fits it. They'd be the ones to go to if you want a good plane. Overall, if you're looking for a 10 seater, I recommend this plane. br>br>* Stanley vintage models from the tenth century frequently have similar flaws that must be flattened out.

Not for the faint of heart; I had to do a lot of "tuning" with this plane, as I had expected
5/5

You get what you pay for, but I was pleased to find that the quality was higher than expected. If you know how to use a good plane (I have old Stanleys, Kunz, and Lie-Nielsen planes), If you expect to use this right out of the box (as Nielsen, for example) don't buy it. I completely disassembled it, had to grind a clearance groove for the frog adjusting screw (the frog was loose when I got it and wouldn't adjust forward as far as it should), aligned the frog, flattened the sole and sides (the sides were pretty bad), flattened and honed the iron, which had some notches in the cutting edge, cleaned off all the stinky grease/oil they apply to these things over seas, and reassembled. The tote and knob are made of a dark hard wood that looks like walnut rather than being stained. After all of the tweaking and tinkering, I was able to work quite well.

It's a good deal and it works well
5/5

Size is good, weight is light, and it cuts the entire width of the sole. The sole was flat, and the sides were angled at a 90-degree angle to the sole. Flattening, sharpening, and polishing the blade were all things that needed to be done. Although some take-up is required for adjustment, the plane performs admirably as a rabbet and Jack plane. Others have suggested replacing the blade with a Hock, but the blade that came with it has held up well for me so far. It is a good deal.
