I got mine on Friday and used it to sharpen the blades on my stones to 4000 without having to regrind them. While this resulted in a relatively clean edge, cutting against the grain resulted in a significant amount of tearout. This is most likely due to me hogging too much at once due to a time constraint. However, you will need to remove most of the edging that is protruding from the surface first, and then this little plane will be able to create a clean chamfer profile for you with multiple light cuts. Mine had a lot of burrs on it. Because I have stones for resharpening my planes, I was able to easily fix this. I hope this has been of assistance.

a bad performance This chamfer plane appeared to be a good clone of one that will be released by a well-known tool manufacturer known for its red tools. That plane has a few quality issues that make it unsuitable for FINE woodworking, in my opinion. This plane is adequate for general construction and rough hewing, but it falls short when it comes to finished bevels. This plane is a bigger headache than it's worth. br>br>The blade is mounted on a worm screw with just enough play that you can lose your depth of cut WHILE using the plane. Second, because this plane is made of cast iron, the sole has far too many flaws to be used on nearly finished projects. The minor imperfections in the cast sole 100% left marks on the board that were at 1/64 deep on the board. With a machined sole, this would not be the case. br>br>The plane is comfortable to hold, and sharpening the chisel is simple. This is something I'll keep for knocking down pine corners. However, that is the only use for this plane. DO NOT USE THIS IF YOU WANT A CLEAN AND FINISHED BEVEL. That necessitates the use of a machined sole.
I bought it on the spur of the moment to see how well it worked. Save your money and buy something else. br>br>The depth setting is sloppy and leaves the blade with a lot of wiggle room. With use, the red coating wears off. While this won't be an issue in the long run, it will leave red streaks on the wood you're working with now. br>br>Created: br>br>Revise: br>br>Revise: After several weeks of owning and using it (or attempting to use it), the flaws with the blade adjustment and the cheap coating rubbing off relegate this to being a paperweight rather than a usable tool. br>br>This is one of those "you get what you pay for tools" that you should avoid completely.
It took two weeks to arrive, so I was really looking forward to using it when it did. The blade, on the other hand, is completely useless due to its dullness! I shouldn't have to disassemble it and sharpen the new product's blade!! Purchases should be avoided.
This tool had a solid build that I liked. The adjustment wheel has a lot of play in it, which is one of my design flaws. I wish the wheel had a locking mechanism to prevent it from moving once the desired depth was set. For the price, I suppose I could wedge a small piece of wood into the wheel opening and secure it.
It's difficult to get a consistent chamfer with this tool. splinters/splits off chunks of wood by digging into grain. The cutting tip isn't rigid or lockable. Cutting tip has about a 1/16" play. It isn't particularly sharp, either.
The product that was delivered did not match the box photo. Because the blade does not fully retract into the body, any champher will be gouged out from the start. br>To accomplish this, I'll remove about 5/16ths of an inch from the threaded adjustable knob. What a pity; it's still a useful tool, but I'll have to work on making it usable. br>Sharpening went well, and it was simple to hone the blade. It should be all right after the correction.
I bought it for a specific purpose: On the wood legs, there is a knock of a square/sharp edge. The issue is that the adjustment mechanism for raising and lowering the blade edge is of poor quality. The blade is not held in place by the tool, so it can move up and down by up to 1/8". As a result, the outcomes will be highly uneven. I threw the item away (after using it for the first and only time outside the return window).
It's of terrible, terrible quality. The blade moves into his cavity, creating a terrible chamfer that leaves an uneven edge, and the paint tints the wood. br>It took a lot of work to get it in working order, such as removing the paint in the area where it comes into contact with the wood, using a file to create a precise space where the blade adjuster(wheel) is located, replacing the washers (2) with others of different size and thickness, and, of course, sharpening the blade, as with any plane you buy. br>I understand that for that price, what can you expect, but they could make it a lot better by raising the price by just $5. If you aren't willing to put in the effort to put it in working order, don't buy it.
