Questions & Answers

Is there a domed face to this hammer?

On one side, the face is flat and on the other, it is curved. (eyeballed with a combo square) I just "measured" the dome, and it appears to be slightly more than a mm thick. A comment sent in without being requested My favorite part of this hammer is the handle.

Why does the head have a shape like that?

While I am not sure how long I have had this hammer, I know I have it for quite a while now and it's quite sturdy So far, it has held up beautifully to a lot of heavy use.

Is it possible to buy the heavier hammers from you?

My sincerest gratitude goes out to We regret not having been able to assist you when you first requested, but heavy hammers cannot currently be handled.

Can you tell me if the handle is made of white oak? Is the handle also curved like on traditional handles, as the picture makes it appear the handles are ?

The handle is made from white oak, and it is straight, although the taper toward the head is slight.

The Japanese hammer is very nice it has two types of faces and multiple weights
5/5

I love this hammer, it looks well made and is I think this would be a good starter hammer for adjusting a Japanese plane blade or hitting a chisel because it weighs 300 grams. There is a heavier version, but I think this is a great one for using to check a plane blade. With a nice shape to the handle and a weighty but light feel to the hand, it is easy to hold with ease. It has two different shapes to the hammer head Two flat planes lie on a lattice. One is convex and the other is slightly concave. Using the flat side, hammers are typically used for driving nails, cutting chisels, and other everyday tasks. With the convex side, nails can be actually set slightly into the wood and the wood will be slightly distressed as the mortise and tenon fitting is applied. The wood will be temporarily compressed, but this process will later cause the wood to expand and lead to a tight.

The handle must be finished before it is safe! It is a good hammer all in all
4/5

Another review observed that the wedge was not hammered all the way into the head, but I believe that this was done by design to allow you to remove the head to finish the handle to your liking, then reinstall the head and finish hammering There was some sanding on the handle, but it was cross grain, and the edges are rough. With just my hands and a little wiggle action, I was able to remove the head from the handle. Using the hammer out of the packaging is not recommended since there is a great possibility that the head could come off while you are using it. After I finish it up, it looks like it will be a great hammer.

It's time to use the hammer

The white oak handle is made out of a low grade Could sap wood be the answer? As far as being solid, it is a very small hammer meant for setting kannas and the like. Upon putting the head into its handle and tapping the small metal wedge on its frame, the handle cracked along the The handle will be changed but nothing will earn you five stars. Okay, no problem.

A great product with less tradition, a lot more modern and commercial
4/5

It is of a very high one would expect from any woodworking tool made in Using the original handle as a guide, I will hand carve a custom (and historically accurate) handle of bent grain and a denser type of pine (better balance) from Japanese pine, which would be of bent grain and longer. I will have a perfect hammer once I've done that.

The balance is good, and the quality is good
5/5

The length of the hammerhead is well balanced with the length of the handle. My favorite part of it is the music. The two heads were too round for my liking, so I rounded one of them. It has been mentioned in other reviews that the wedge protrudes from the top and I believe it is left that way so that IF the head did ever become loose, it could be easily tightened.

The hammer I've been using lately is my new favorite
5/5

The hammer I like best is this one. Ultimately, I decided to remove the plastic finish from the handle so that it is more secure in my hands. Stackers are perfect for holding chisels and driving small nails as well as hammering floating tenons. This is an ideal size and weight to close up on and work with fine detail or to extend at full extension to increase I always have to tell the ladies first thing when they come into my shop about it- I wonder what it would be like to be a man with a excellent sense of style. Yes, I agree. Make that guy your role model.

Japan's expertise is apparent in every detail
5/5

Hammer made of solid steel and durable to use for chiseling or nailing. With the highest level of detailing, this Japan-made tool has a comfortable handle and a well-finished head which has one concave face and one hammering face. It has this versatility so it makes a great You environment can impact the fit of the heads, moisture can expand the wood, and a dry environment can shrink the wood. It could simply be fixed by inserting a wedge if this is the case. My favorite thing about this hammer is it's light weight.

Hammering the plane with a great plane
5/5

This is an excellent It has just been received by me. Forging is of very high quality on the head. My impression is that the handle is a bit large, but I spoke with another Japanese tool expert and said that this is fair. In my understanding, the handles are left oversized and are often left I am very impressed by this feature, which allows the user to customize the handle to fit their hand.
