That's something I haven't tried yet. I wouldn't hit most seals directly with a hammer, in my opinion. Instead of striking the seal, I'd place a piece of wood or plastic against it. If you do that, all you need is a hammer of the appropriate weight, regardless of its material.

I work as a dealership mechanic and do a lot of suspension work, so I needed a brass hammer to knock loose components without damaging threads or cracking something with a steel hammer. I ordered this 6 months ago, and I've used it almost every day since then. My faces have taken a beating, but they haven't chipped or deformed; there is some light mushrooming around the edges, which is to be expected when pounding steel with brass, but it has no bearing on the function. The grip and handle are still tight, and it's comfortable to hold and balances well. I have a number of Tekton tools and have yet to be disappointed by any of them. This is a great hammer for the money, and it's still going strong after more than 6 months of hard use. I'd strongly recommend it for a pro or casual user alike at this price and with Tektons warranty.
I own an auto repair shop and supply tools to entry-level employees. I bought this hammer because of the positive reviews, but my experience has been anything but positive. I watched as the head of this hammer fell off after only a few uses under supervision. Thankfully, it fell off on the recovery right after impact, rather than flying off in the middle of a swing and injuring someone. There were no shaft impacts, just a faulty/poorly designed hammer, so the epoxy didn't hold. I used the Amazon customer service center to contact the manufacturer for product support and was informed that support is not available for this product; however, there are many other manufacturers in this price range, so I recommend avoiding TEKTON products. There is no support and the quality is poor.
According to what I've read, a brass hammer will produce far better and more consistent results in this type of application. So far, I've been blown away. After stamping about 50-100 times, This hammer appears to be very durable after being used on 100 items. I bought this hammer after losing the one I'd been using for the past 50 years. This new hammer is well-made and of good quality. It's what I use to work with drive pins and other small projects. br>br>I wanted this size hammer, not some of the lighter weight hammer heads, because I'm used to working with this size hammer for gunsmithing. The construction quality of this hammer drew me to it. The brass head is flawlessly cast and firmly attached to the hammer handle. br>br>I gave this product five stars because it is a good product. Because I work as a mold setter for a large automotive injection molding facility, I use this brass hammer on a daily basis. I've smashed molds to bits with this hammer, swinging it as hard as I can, and this handle holds up admirably. It's brass, which is a soft metal, so it'll mushroom, which is normal for any brass hammer, so don't worry about damaging your molds or anything. This hammer comes highly recommended by me for anyone in need of a brass hammer, particularly mold setters. The handle is a little longer than usual, but it's much easier to use than my old one! This one-pound head brass hammer has a strong fiberglass handle with a non-slip grip for serious work. For a firm grip, slip on the jacket. Great for all gun work as well as removing primers from brass cartridges for reloading. There are a slew of other applications as well. The quality is very good.
I used to use a ball peen hammer and a brass drift, but I've discovered that if I can fit a hammer head in my work space, just using this brass hammer is far more effective. It hasn't yet mushroomed on me, but if it does, all I have to do is take it to a belt sander and it'll be as good as new! I got a 1 pound brass hammer, and it works well for me. It's not too heavy, but I can still pound something to death when I need to, usually without causing any damage. For instance, I can smack steel bolts with this hammer without damaging the threads or the bolt head. Simply put on eye protection to avoid getting brass in your eyes.
