My role as a ham includes being one of the few view-certified tower climbers in my area. On the weekend before last, I assisted with the installation of a real HF antenna for the local ham club in Virginia. To cut LMR-type wire, I used these cutters This coaxial cable is 400 feet long. I took it to the next level when it came to cutting the coxal. In regards to cutting medium to large coaxial cable, I highly recommend these cutters.
It is thin cables that are cut. did manage to chew through a 1/0 cable a few times with them, but I lost a lot of fingernails. Any wire up to 2 awg and lighter will work well with these. If you have to cut a lot of heavier wire, you'll need bolt-style cutters, but for most wire you'll be fine with these. You want to get rid of these grips because they are trash, they spin and slide everywhere.
I'm using them for wire 2 AWG copper welding cable, so I have no idea how they will hold up to steel wire. This wire slices easily and (more importantly) very cleanly with no damage to.
This tool is good value for its price.
The device is working for me well, I would buy it again. I shouldn't use $30 on a device I don't need We are able to make use of this 40.
