Questions & Answers

What is the purpose of the threads?

I'm guessing your bench has a threaded hole in the top (or elsewhere) to accept the vice head's threaded post. A hole and a metal rod were the only features of previous benches. These serve as a preventative measure. down. (And it's done very well.)

Is it compatible with the Nordic Plus Workbench 1450?

I use a Sjoberg elite bench, which is excellent. If your bench has 1 inch dog holes and a bench top that is at least 2 inches thick, you've got yourself a winner. It should work with a thickness of 5 inches.

What is the threaded part's thread size?

Is the large threaded post that goes into the dog hole what you're referring to? It measures 15/16th of an inch in diameter.

Awesome
5/5

What can I say, this is a high-end bench clamp. Note that this is for dog holes with a diameter of 1 inch. This is the second one I've ordered, and it's great for holding down larger items.

The nut that holds the shaft to the table is missing
3/5

Yes, the shaft is secured to the workbench by drilling a hole in the bench deck and then placing a nut and washer beneath the table deck. The clamp, on the other hand, does not include a nut. Worse, the one-inch shaft has a one-inch Acme thread on it. A nut with a 1" acme female thread is difficult to come by. It's possible to have one made. This will set you back around $175. really? Who the hell thought it was a good idea to put acme threads on this and then not provide the nut?.

Thankfully, it is not as pictured, but it is still a fantastic clamp
5/5

The clamp I ordered had a black handle and a partial pin at the time I ordered it. Mine came with a red handle, a fully mounted pin with what appear to be threads near the bottom, a fixed collar about one-fourth of the way down, and a stop at the top of the pin to keep it from falling off while handling. The screw down has a large, hefty nylon-looking piece that really holds it in place. It's a massive, solid piece of metal. br>br>The diameter of my bench holes is exactly one inch. The diameter of the pin is likely to be 1/8" less. I have the Sjoberg bench and am extremely pleased with this clamp (as well as the bench). This thing held a piece of wood I couldn't move with working force with only a little torque. It is capable of handling a wide variety of tasks. piece thickness and can be placed a reasonable distance from the edge.

The item I received was not exactly what was advertised, but it was satisfactory
5/5

For those of us who have Sjoberg benches with 1" bench dog holes, these heavy-duty holdfasts are a godsend. They're not cheap, but they appear to be extremely durable. Some have claimed that the plastic cover (not visible in this photo) that makes contact with the item being held fast is flimsy, but I disagree. You'd be left with the item shown if it ever cracked and broke off. Almost as useful. A red plastic hand grip is on the one with the white plastic cover/cushion/pad (whatever you want to call it). If you got that one, you'll know right away. This is a must-have if you know what a holdfast is for and have the Sjoberg bench.

Like a tank, it's built to last
5/5

It's difficult to think of a better option. It's simple to use, has a lot of clamping force, and a nice large non-slip surface. If dropped from orbit, the marking foot would most likely survive.

Hand planing is a breeze with this tool
4/5

For years, I've struggled with securing edge-planed pieces to my bench - For narrow or short boards, this is especially true. My clamping systems were occasionally successful - It doesn't always work out. This holdfast makes clamping a piece securely near the bench's edge a lot easier (and faster). I'm sure there will be more applications as time goes on. br>If you want to keep your bench looking nice, wipe it off before putting it on. It was soiled and covered in metal cruft, which will stain.
