Hello, Andy. I have a wide variety of wood clamps. This clamp is the most expensive I've ever purchased, but it's also the best. I switch from jigs for the drill press to jigs for the table saw. It's also what I use to clamp wood when I'm carving. It has a lot of power and doesn't leave any stains on the wood.
A minimum of 1 1/2" and a maximum of 3 1/2" separate the two points.
3 1/2"
Use a spacer block to keep things from getting too crowded. A 1" block should be used if you need to clamp something 1" below the clamp's level. To prevent slippage, I frequently use 220 grit sticky backed sandpaper on the block.

After the first day, the T bolt head snapped off; I'm sure it can be replaced with a standard bolt head.
These things just snap in half with minimal clamping pressure. With the exception of armor clamps, you get what you pay for in life. There are much better options on the market for almost $40 that have the quality you'd expect for that price.
I ordered this clamp to compare it to the NAME Brand self-adjusting hold down clamps I already own; it costs about $10 less than the others, but I think I would have preferred to spend a few dollars more. br>It works, so if cost is the most important consideration, it'll suffice.
This toggle clamp is used on the fence of my table saw cross cut sled; I replaced the clamp foot with a longer one because the fence on a t track is 4 inches high. It's fantastic.
This was purchased to be used with a table saw sled. I had to learn how to make all of the adjustments, but now that it's in place, it works flawlessly. It's worth noting that, despite the fact that it claims to have the same clamping power regardless of the thickness of the object being clamped, this isn't entirely accurate.
