Questions & Answers
Yes. Simply make some practice cuts to determine the exact distance between where you place the device and where your saw cuts.
Like a ruler, it clamps to a board or panel to provide a straight edge for your saw to follow when cutting a straight line. For that, it's ideal.
It's made to make right-angle cuts (or parallel cuts in the clamped direction). You could use it as a straight edge for smaller projects, but it would be just like any other straight edge; the clamping function would be unavailable.
I'm not sure what Amazon or the manufacturer are saying about why it should be stuck or allowed to slide, but I use mine so that it can slide; if you're using it as a guide clamp, it doesn't matter because you're only looking for a guide. It may be more convenient if you can move the ruler a little if you're using it to mark or cut a specific length along the guide. I'd let it slide unless you're sure there's no job and you'd like the flexibility to move it around a little.

Here are a few pointers to help you get it to work the way you want it to. This item is fantastic. If you're like me and bought this because you've just started woodworking and want to expand your capabilities without spending a fortune on a table saw, there are a few things you should know before you start using it on your projects: 1. br>br> Purchase some measuring and layout equipment. At the very least, get a speed square; however, a combination square is worth its weight in gold when using this guide. br>br>2. Check that your circular saw blade is at a perfect 90-degree angle. To make the baseplate glide across the workpiece, coat it with wax. br>br>3. Make a plan for how you'll align the guide on your marks and stick to it. I decided to split the pencil line in half. br>br>4. INSPECT THE GUIDE AT BOTH ENDS TO MAKE SURE IT IS SQUARE. The guide WILL NOT lock down square, so double-check it every time, and pull on the end with the handle while adjusting it so it doesn't move when you lock it down. You can use the speed square at both ends of the guide or the combination square. br>br>5. When placing the guide, remember to account for the saw kerf, which will vary depending on which side you want to "keep. "br>br>6. While cutting, use gentle but consistent pressure on the guide. Although I don't believe it will flex, there's no need to add any additional forces. br>br>My first few cuts were sloppy, but I was dead-on by the end of my first project with this guide. forward to 1/32" When it comes to setup time, it's no substitute for a table saw, but with a little patience, you can get the exact cuts you want. Have fun!.
I ordered the 'DCT Aluminum Pro Grip Clamp Straight Edge' to help me trim the bottoms of some doors in my house. The clamp was simple to install on the door and made circular saw cutting simple and painless. Many people claim that all they need to do is follow a marked line, but I was cutting to within 1/8 of an inch and didn't want to make any mistakes, so I needed a straight edge to guide the circular saw. This worked perfectly; the cut was straight and smooth, and there were no mistakes.
I bought it because my circular saw is incapable of cutting a straight line. I either pinch the blade or set fire to the wood. I chose a length that will allow me to cut up to a 4 foot wide piece of plywood, mdx, or wood doors. The clamp release has been the only issue I've had with it. The clamp doesn't really let go even when I flip up the handle. To get it off the work piece, I have to wiggle and pull. The clamping force is adequate.
It's a straight edge that helps line up cuts; however, the clamping power isn't as strong as I'd like it to be, and it slides occasionally if you press on it.
I received it three days earlier than expected, thanks to quick shipping! This clamp fits my needs perfectly. I made a custom table saw box, and the original clamp was too short. This thing can hold a lot of weight! My only gripe is that the clamp's height isn't higher. It's not really a complaint because it works perfectly for what I'm doing, but maybe 1/2" taller would be ideal. This is something I would recommend.
I placed an order for a track clamp that measures 50 inches in length. A 50-inch golf umbrella was what I got. Both are attractive, but they are not interchangeable.
a half star It does exactly what I need it to do for small home projects, and it's a good price. It's made of fairly thick aluminum, so be careful not to drop it. If I'm ripping or cross-cutting, I use two small back-up clamps on each end. reducing the thickness of the material to make it more flexible. With a circular saw, I'm not as quick as I used to be. If used properly and within its limitations, it serves its purpose. Neither the quality nor the price are commercial or contractor-grade.
I gambled on buying a returned item, which was missing an end retainer piece. I'm hoping I'll be able to come up with something.
