The rust effects of Modern Masters have always been my favorite, but I believe I am out of activators. The Modern Masters Kit comes with a small bottle of activator, but that never seems to be enough to cover an entire project with two bottles (iron and primer). This large bottle of activator is just great, it gives you the deep rust, but also the fine power like rust. I am a very frugal person, but when you can get quality output like that this activator provides, you realize that If you've never used the activator before, you'll want to first pick up the kit which contains the primer, the iron paint, and the You can use this big bottle when you have used up your little bottle of activator, but still have plenty of paint left over. When I let each of the paint layers dry completely, the best results are obtained. I seal up the bag and spray it well with activator. After 20 minutes, I remove it from the bag and remove the model. Following this, I dry it and take it out. Let the rust dry for as long as possible, and it will become even more amazing. It is surface rust, so I seal it with a UV protectant wearing a matt or gloss finish. Rustickoelum clear topcoat acts as a sealer. The copper paint is easier to use on a flat surface, rather than on a vertical surface that is angled. I painted my bus with the copper paint now, since the patina is much stronger that way. It would have been nice to see more green in the image. When I did it twice, it only covered about half of the surface, but on a flat surface it would have been 100 percent. The product line I use in my art work is absolutely wonderful I've used it for a few years already. There is a problem ordering the activators because they are liquid and costly. While they are shipped in a sealed plastic bag, they leak every single time! I found this last bottle not terrible, but within the sealed bag it was still a little messy. It would be relatively easy to fix with a bit of electrical tape around the cap.
You have a 5 star product, but you waste a lot of time and energy handling these leaking caps.
This whole collection of oxidizing paints by Modern Masters is like a playground just for rust lovers. Inwood, metal, and other surfaces are painted with iron, bronze, and copper base paints with oxidizing agents to simulate real rust as well as green and blue verdigris patinas. The rate and extent of oxidation caused by these paints varies based on temperature and other environmental factors, so it's always a bit of a guesswork process. Despite these challenges, the benefits outweigh them by a wide margin. For years, I have worked with the company's oxidizing paints for a variety of projects and am always satisfied with the results.

As I am trying to create some faux rust on metal roofing, I am using this material for my second attempt. I failed to paint the roof with black metal paint on the first try because I did not remove the galvanization first. As I stripped the material, washed and dried it, and painted two+ coats of black iron paint per the instructions, the second round should have worked. As instructed, I let it dry overnight and applied two coats of the rust activator five minutes apart. The observation I made was that you must use twice as much activator as paint in order to fully cover the materials (I had an extra bottle left over from the first failed attempt). In the photo below you can see what I now have after several hours of curing time. I have 15 useless pieces of metal roofing as well as a full day of wasted time. Others may have success with different bases, but I have empty bottles.
