As this product absorbs moisture, liquid is collected in the bottom of the container as a result. By using a semipermeable membrane technology, it keeps the liquid in the container even if it tips over or spills. After the container has held enough liquid, it is time to throw it away.

Can you tell me the shelf life of the active items?

I'm not sure but I think it totally depends on the amount of moisture it has to handle.

The exact same product can be found at Dollar Tree! But don't be like me and give this to someone who doesn't know anything about firearms - go to the dollar tree and you'll save $$$.

It is always the smell of my two least used vehicles in the garage that gets to my daughter. One of the two (after having the product in my car for a few months) made me notice something after I pulled it out of my car - it is a bit depressing. Did I imagine it to have a moldy odor, or was it a difference in my perception? Water collection is not possible, but why would it be? There is no water in my garage.

In my basement I have two of them

That hasn't been the case. In my basement I have two of them. There has been no action taken by them. As a result, my basement gets wet when it rains, which results in a lot of moisture, but these walls do not pick up any of it.
