Questions & Answers

Why is this characterized as a "japanese" tool considering the fact that it was made in china and sold by a company in Illinois?

As the seller replied, "this is a Japanese tool," I found this to be a very insightful response. Despite the product's labeling as "made in Japan", if you look at the pictures of the protractor on the packaging, it explicitly declares "made in China".

Can you tighten the arm of the protractor with the thumb screw to accurately measure angles and save them?

As the thumb screw tightens, the user is able to set an angle that is firm. The angle, however, is easily bumped and can even move on you since there is no real locking mechanism to keep it in place. This protractor will set the angle well. After that, you can use another tool to match the angle again and transfer it to another piece of work. The tool can be used as an all-in-one stop if necessary, but my experience leads me to believe that you should be cautious not to bump it, or else the angle will change.

What if the angle is on the inside?

Another Shinwa product (the adjustable T Bevel) is also used to duplicate an inside angle and then to measure it with a

The type of tool that can be used for a typical home workshop or by a tradesman
4/5

As this item is manufactured in China, it is probably made to the specifications, standards and expectations of Shinwa, a well-known manufacturer The company is known and respected in Japan. It is an affordable and reasonably good quality tool that proves to be both easy to use and accurate for laying out basic angles in your typical home workshop or possibly in the shop of a handyman or carpenter.
Are there protractors that are better, more durable, and more accurate? Do some protractors cost more than others? I'm sure of it. In no way is this model any less accurate than most others This is a digital workshop protractor, but it's probably more accurate than other analog ones of the same price, especially those made of plastic or with a pivot that can wear out. Choosing your path and paying your money accordingly is your choice. With a stamped steel protractor like this, the metal is durable enough to be used every day. A nice job was done with the markings A clear, crisp and dark image The alignment is simple and easy to read. A beam or arm consists of a ruler and a pair of hands The mounting frame of the gantry is straight and sturdy enough to ensure accuracy in the event of an accident. It is nice that the knob can be tightened easily to secure the angle for repeated use on a given job. Overall, for the price, this protractor is a decent tool. It should last for years with reasonable care, so it is worth considering. The deal is good.

I received a protracor that was half a degree off from the accurate one
4/5

In addition to being well made, this protractor is made to survive in a A protractor has the main purpose of measuring angles. Observing this protractor, I see that it is slightly off by about 1/2 degree. You Tube has a video explaining how this can be corrected. There are other ways to make it better as well. It would be more efficient to place a 6" ruler scale on the arm of the protractor, rather than leaving it blank, which would waste Further to this, extend a line from 0 degrees to 180 degrees across the angular scale in order to line up this axis easier.

I like this protractor very much
5/5

I liked the way it was made. Changda Technology was the company responsible for my first protractor purchase. There was nothing to it, and the price was the same There is no doubt that the Shinwa is a vastly superior product. For the sheer entertainment value, you would be crazy to buy both just to see the ridiculous difference. I would say you got a fair value for your money if the Chinese Changda were only $2. If it costs the same as a real protractor, you just waste your time when you buy and return it. This tool is made by a company in Illinois and even though it has a Japanese name, it has the appearance of being high-quality. However, it does provide good protractor measurements.

An overall score of 4 would be appropriate
5/5

If I were able, I would give 5 stars. While this router is definitely 5 stars for the price, I found the edges to be a little inaccurate at 0 degrees because they weren't milled as flatly as I would have liked. Nevertheless, with a bit of tuning on a granite surface plate and some sandpaper or similar, this can be fixed. Similarly, another complaint is that although the angle can be adjusted, the tension screw can be loosened. There may be a method to correct it using a light thread locking compound, but I have not tried it.

I find it to be both robust and accurate
5/5

There is no doubt that this is an excellent In the last year since I bought it, I have used it a dozen times. A robust and accurate system appears to be in place. The tool holder on my lathe is what I use most often to align. Its accuracy is shown in the pictures to be very good at 0, It is perfectly aligned with the edge of both disks and the reference bar in both cases. As a result, the edge of the reference bar coincides perfectly with the edge of the protractor disk at zero degrees. A locking knob operates smoothly and holds the angle firmly in place. It does not appear that the post is loose or will become loose in the future. As a result, there is no play between the post and reference bar.

The statement is not accurate
3/5

work for an overall indication, but since it is off by more than a degree at 90 degrees, I can't use it as a general guideline. I can't use it because it isn't good enough. There is a nice matte finish to this bag, but it appears that the markings are silk screened, not engraved, so they will probably wear off over time. This item is clearly marked "Made in China" as described by another reviewer, so the title of the listing is incorrect.
Perhaps the item was made in Japan originally? I returned it because of other concerns. To be honest, it seems a bit deceptive.

It was a good product, but the shipping was a bit shaky
4/5

There are many positive things to say about this tool. I am impressed with the way that the protractor's lock is so fine that it doesn't take much effort to secure Gradual movements are made when setting the degree, and the labels on the degrees are placed on a nice dull surface, so if there is oil on the surface, they can be easily read. When it came to me, my only complaint was that it was not in the right package. There was a little damage to the plastic cover and the cardboard backing. By moving up and breaking the top of the plastic holding the nut in place, the adjustable nut had managed to break the packaging and the plastic of the packaging itself. It would have been nice if the packaging were a little more premium, but it is okay and appears to have suffered no damage. Although I think the packaging could be changed a little bit for a safe mail delivery, this is a good product, and I'm a fan of many Japanese products made by machinists because of their accuracy.

Despite being made in China, it's still pretty The product would receive 5 stars if it were made with Japanese steel and craftsmanship
3/5

There are strong indications that this is a Made In China item. The UI is decent and still works well. I rated it with two stars because the advertisement was misleading.
