For trips to the hardware store, this is a handy pocket caliper made of brass. In my experience, this is the smallest I've seen and it's pretty, so I rate it 4 stars for those reasons. There are a number of concerns not present with the high-spec item, of course, but they would be significant for an item of higher cost. As the outer edges are a bit sharp, you'll want to break them lightly with a file. There is a difference of 0. 01 between the zero and the one. This is the same as 1mm. The vernier makes it easier to see the 0. 014, which is not as tough as it seems. It is impossible to determine the inside measurement using an index line. There are probably extensions on the inside of the measuring tube which are about 5mm, but the dimensions are probably set at 5mm. One millimeter. If you just add 5 to mine, it seems to work just fine. It compensates for zero offset by converting the 0mm measurement to an inside reading. Another example may vary, as well as suspicions that this was not intentional. These are better than typical plastic vernier calipers because they do not have a vernier on the inch side.

It also has a vernier scale that I could not find on the other one I bought. There are a lot of shiney scales. It could be that it has grooves and is so dark it is difficult for you to read. To make it easier to read, rub it with paint to fill the grooves.
The inner measurements are not displayed, and the accuracy of the measurement is not very good.
I love it.
