The first thing you should know is if you think this will be a smart device similar to your other WiFi capable devices, push it. My expectations were to get a smart irrigation controller I could remotely control as I imagined one, similar to my smart phone. You do not need to connect to your WiFi for this timer to work. Rather, it has its own WiFi transmitter that allows you to sync your phone with it. It did not occur to me until after it had been installed that I wasn't happy about it. There are several buttons to press, such as up and down, mode, and enter, making it difficult to set. The item caused me so much angst that I was about Having downloaded the app and associated it with my WiFi on the timer, I was able to download it. This product does not connect to the internet or your home network, so please be aware if you are buying it thinking that it supports WiFi.
