This was found on Amazon for half the price of the original ceiling fan, but I decided it was cheaper than buying a new one. Adding this unit to the system was a simple drop-in replacement that took only a few minutes to do. You could either use wire nuts to connect the 2 power wires together, or you can cut the wires and put them on different connectors. I took the 2 power wires and fed them through two connectors. I opened the failed unit and found that it had a soldered in fuse that probably blew when the power was switched off and on too fast. An expert with electronics and soldering would probably be needed to replace the fuse, but the cost of replacing it would probably not be more than $1.
Like the original, it fits in just fine. It has the same functionality as Including dimming, the remote works just like the original. I was expecting to use a 9v battery, so I had to buy a 23A, 12v battery to use the remote. I am very pleased with the results. The installation was very straightforward. Once it became evident that the MR77A was not compatible with my Altura fan, I changed my review. My fan was wired with an old UC70067FM receiver and separate "reverse module". There is a misunderstanding here Throughout the years that I have been installing fans in my homes, I have never heard of reverse modules. The old components were removed, the power and neutral wires were connected directly from the ceiling outlet to the wires leading down the rod, and then the receiver was plugged in. It worked like a charm.
We were able to fix our Altura Hampton Bay fan by using this product since it worked exactly as described. Since I've gone through a few of these and found the OEM ones to be poorly designed and frequently burn out, I'm hoping this one has been improved to be more reliable. The original Hampton Bay fans failed to meet the market's expectations. This is not really a critique of this product, but more of a measure of neglect for the product's original consumers. My next Hampton Bay fan purchase will likely be a vacuum cleaner.
