No idea about the AC 418 remote, but I tried it, but it wasn't working and I was able to replace it with a remote that is exactly the same, and it works fine. You can always return it if it doesn't work for you. Luckily, Amazon makes it easy to return products. There's no way to go wrong with this.

You will not find any instructions or a battery within the remote. These two features need to be included. It was only after reading other reviews that I was able to figure out how to program it. Unfortunately, the reverse function does not work on mine, but I am not too bothered by that. As I've mentioned, I only needed a new remote, as the original one that came with the fan fell apart. This one should come with specific instructions, and a solar battery for the price would be appropriate as well. Four stars, however, because I figured it out.
A ceiling fan was the last thing I thought I would need. It kept coming up as something about a remote on Google when I Googled how to repair it. There was a wall switch on the wall that worked the fan, but the light wasn't coming A new bulb was installed and I changed other things as well. You would get the remote to light up when you pushed the button, but it would not turn on the light. In order to make sure I have the same model as the one I had, I ordered this remote. I ordered two and both worked for one of them already matched one of the two ceiling fans, the other one needed to be set up. Because there are only 16 possible combinations with four on/off switches on the fan, I went through the combinations until I hit on the right one. I didn't know the code for the receiver inside the fan, so I just tried the combinations until I found.
If you can find the code, you'll have a great fan. It's the Hampton Bay remote that is challenging, not the remote itself. All the fans have been recoded to function wirelessly. There is a PROBLEM with this fan. It must be dismantled to see the code underneath. What makes me mad is that they don't stamp the freaking code on one of the blades. It lights up just fine on the remote.
