Having recently installed a ceiling fan in my screen room, I purchased this attachment to attach it to a 2" wide aluminum beam. I found this item while searching for some way to mount the fan that was visually pleasing. My initial reaction was a little skeptic, but it ended up being exactly what I was looking for. As a result of the screws included, the box holds very securely. I mounted the box to a ceiling fan that I mounted outdoors and it is in a very stable position. You can run wiring to it from the top or side. The shallow round side of the box has a very low profile so the fan sits very close to the beam, unlike with a metal side mount box that wouldn't have passed my wife's test for a side mount. It works well for me if I use wiremold through the top. To match the dark bronze color of the screen supports and beams, I plan to paint the mount and wiremold. There is no doubt in my mind that this product is very suitable for anyone looking for a close-side beam or stud mount. Just as an afterthought, I wish I had painted it beforehand.
I am not giving a poor review because the item is perfect, but I could have saved $10 if I had been able to visit my local home depot or lowe's.
As I needed it, I found it here. Because of it, I could attach my hanging light directly to the beam of the ceiling and had more than enough space to connect wires and other components. Compared to shallow boxes, this is much stronger and more durable than boxes that hang from the wall.
My ceiling fan was almost an inch off center of beam due to it being offset from the center of the To secure it to the center of the beam, it had to be placed on an individual flat pan.
There is a 5 inch thickness. I found this to be the perfect solution for adding a fan box to a 1 inch thick lam beam. There is a 5 inch thickness. I really liked how well made it was, and it came with mounting screws and a I am all- I find this to be a very good value for the money.
My first impression was more accurate than my second.
