Despite all my negative reviews, I continue to love this filter and the great tasting water it produces. It is city water, I live in a new house, I am a relatively new neighbor, but the 1 micron filter still caught a lot of debris. It is disappointing to find that Amazon's packaging for these items is lacking. Last time I bought a filter, it had a cracked top, which was hard to notice unless you paid close attention. There's no odor in the water and neither does it have a taste. There was a slight smell of hydrogen sulfide (Rotten Eggs) in my apartment. They were very helpful in making the decision to try the KDF85 filter when I called the manufacturer and sent them my water test report. As a final filter in a trio, I installed it downstream from a 5 micron sediment filter. The CTO-carbon filter I had originally installed didn't quite do the job and I kept it as the final filter. It appears that the initial results are positive. My water doesn't smell at all, tastes good, and has no odor at all.
