I'm 365 pounds, and the right seat hinge on my car broke after three months. It was stated in the description that the item would not loosen, but this was not the case.
We have the round model and loved it so much that we bought them for the entire house after a year. In response to your question, the lid isn't particularly strong or heavy, but it's also not a light weight. My children and I can sit on it without difficulty, but now that you've asked the question, I notice a slight bowing from the lid, and I'm not particularly small. That said, the lower seat portion is very sturdy, and the slow close (for both the seat and the lid) has been excellent. If their lives depended on it, my kids wouldn't be able to slam the lid =)

To be honest, my heart sank when I first opened the box and felt how light it was. I'm a colossal hunk of a man. I required a toilet seat that was both sturdy and comfortable. But appearances can be deceiving, and this thing is tough as nails. People who weigh more than the listed limit have had no problems using it. The lid does not slam down, which makes it very easy to clean. It gradually closes after that, which is ideal for late-night Taco Bell penalties. When it's time for me to move, I'll be taking this seat with me. br>br>I'm suddenly aware of how strange, lame, and fat it is to be so enthusiastic about a toilet seat, but here we are. This will take care of your doodie if you have a big booty. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
My weight is 300 pounds, and I'm a bigger guy. I've always had problems with toilet seats twisting, loosening, sliding off the bowl, and the bumpers breaking off, regardless of my size. br>br>I was fed up with having to replace toilet seats every two years or so. This item is well-made and sturdy, and with proper care, it should last a long time. br>br>I really like the way the seat is designed. The bolts are steel and solidly molded into the seat's hinges. Simply slide it into the bowl's holes and secure the nuts, which are made of a harder plastic that won't bend or twist but aren't so brittle that they'll break. The nut is a long threaded sleeve that spans nearly the entire length of the bolt, with what appears to be a standard nut molded onto the end of the "sleeve" that breaks away when the proper amount of torque is applied to secure the seat. This applies just enough pressure to keep the seat firmly in place on the bowl without overtightening it and risking damage to the bowl or seat. And it does a fantastic job of keeping it tucked away in the bowl. Here, there is no slipping or twisting. A standard 5/8" wrench is all that's needed. It was very simple because I used a 5/8 ratchet box end wrench. br>br>The bumpers are made of a harder rubber and cover the entire bowl rim. The bumpers are seated in a molded cavity with a ridge that runs the length of the bumper to prevent it from moving back and forth and breaking or twisting off. br>br>Also fantastic is the soft close feature. There will be no sudden slamming of the seat, making you jump out of your skin. If you have grandkids, as I do, don't slam the toilet seat shut after they've used it.
We've been using our new seat for a week now. My main concern with any seat is wear and staining, and let's face it, I don't clean the toilet every day, so I've been on the lookout for something that fits a round seat, is attractive, and is heavy and non-slip. It's pliable and stain-resistant. I clean the toilets once a week, and this seat has held up well so far, with no stains and ridiculously easy cleaning. It has a nice look and feel to it, and it's comfortable to wear. It doesn't wiggle or slam. I'll have to wait a little longer before ordering more for the rest of the house, but I'm already blown away. The cost is comparable to that of less expensively constructed seats - I wish I had bought these the first time around; I'll keep you updated if anything changes! br>*Updated on May 27th, 2019: I've had it for about 6 months and it still looks brand new =) I'm hoping more will be available soon so I can replace the rest of the furniture in the house.
(additional information) It appears to be made of a light-weight plastic. Everything about it appeals to me, except for the fact that it appears to be made of too light plastic. I'm not sure I can sit on it with the lid down, to be honest. As a result, I have my reservations. If it dies too soon, I'll make a note of it. I had hoped for a price of nearly $50 to have complete confidence in a long-lasting product, but I don't. If it holds up better than expected, I'll try to update it as well. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> It's ideal in every way except for the fact that I can't sit on it. If I put my full weight on it, it wants to squish off to the side and will most likely break. 270 kilograms.
I received a prompt response - Listed as having four bumpers - Only two were included in the shipment. Cleaning mechanism was advertised as having a lift - There were none in the product that was shipped. The model number on the product box was correct - I believe it was replaced with a less expensive model; otherwise, the website needs to be updated with the correct features.
This toilet seat is very comfortable for me, and I like how it slopes backwards. It'll never be as comfortable to sit on for me as an enamel-covered chair. The durability of a plastic seat outweighs the cost of a painted wooden seat. It has a nice shape and is a good fit for my standard toilet. I like the soft-closing lid, but as others have mentioned, it closes very slowly. The fact that I can't sit on the lid sideways without the plastic bending is my biggest complaint about this seat. I'm only 5'10" and weigh 160 pounds. I'm concerned that it will eventually develop a permanent defect. Giving my children a bath requires me to sit sideways on the seat, which is inconvenient and necessitates sitting on the floor. I can sit on it forward facing without issue, but sideways is a no-no; I wish it were a little more durable in that regard. Overall, a comfortable toilet seat, and I'm glad it won't lose its finish in a few months like an enamel coated wood one would. I enjoyed it so much that I purchased a second one, but it could be better. The installation was simple and the fit was excellent.
