Neither the flange nor the screws are threaded. In addition to the rubber gasket that fits inside the hole in the flange, there is a plastic gasket as well. Keeping the flange on the arm is tightly held by it.

Quite a few people are interested in this. 3 years later, I have to replace it again because it is rusted to the point of failure. Stainless steel, so much for it. The brass is the way to go this time.
Tired of replacing flaking and rusting shower arms every year, I will see if this lasts. A hand tight wrenchless installation is made possible on this installation because it's heavier and threaded better than others. The teflon that came with it made it much easier since I didn't have to dig through the garage for one. The rubber grommet on the flange is easy to slide in place and securely holds the piece in place. In the past, I have replaced many shower arms, and all of the replacements I have purchased until now have seemed relatively cheap and thin-walled. My all-time favorite heavy wall stainless steel shower arm is without a doubt the best I've ever seen and the only one I will use going forward. I wish I had discovered.
I was pleased with the performance of the shower arm, and the gasket on the flange held it securely in place. You should throw out the free plumbers tape that comes with this if you order. I finally switched from the included tape to tape I normally use after trying for almost an hour to get it to stop leaking (it installs in less than a minute). An immediate solution was found to the problem. If you use quality tape instead of thin, I don't know if it's ultra thin or just poor quality, but you'll save yourself time and stress.
During the process of installing a new showerhead, I discovered that my old shower arm had some type of fitting on the end that I could not remove without damaging it. This meant that my only choice was to replace the entire arm to fix my Packaged very nicely in a heavy cardboard box and with a roll of teflon tape included, this item arrived in perfect condition. Despite the fact that I am not so handy, the job went smoothly with the pipe fitting just fine. Compared with the old one, the new one was made of stainless steel with a nice chrome finish and had a nice weight.
I had purchased the AquaDance 7" Premium High Pressure 3-Pound Pump, but it was not working. Combination of two rainfalls with six Set the Aquadance Hand Held Shower (recommended this shower head combo) but since my shower arm had a ball end instead of a thread, it did not work, so I bought this. This arm is 6 inches long and has more functionality and is ergonomically better than my old arm that was 10 inches long. It matches my new set of tools and seems very sturdy. As for the old arm with the bad halo and the insertion wand, I must admit that I felt it was a pain in the rear. Getting the 6 inches is a good idea if you're tall. The longer size will be best for someone who is 5'7ish or shorter.

The chrome plated brass shower arms that we have pit and corrode very quickly living near the ocean. The shower arm also has a gasketed escutcheon that forms a water-tight seal against the tile as well as helping to keep the arm in place versus the metal prongs digging into the metal surface. In our corrosive air, I am sure polished stainless steel will perform better than chrome fixtures. Stainless steel looks pretty similar to chrome fixtures, and its appearance matches that of polished chrome. This product came in the same packaging as Apple Very pleased with this purchase. I can tell the company puts a lot of care into its products.
