There's nothing unusual about this rack. It prevents pots and pans from damaging the flat bottom of our expensive Stainless Kohler sink. However, at $80, it is significantly overpriced. Because we have a 1 3/4 sink, one side is slightly smaller than the other. If you're thinking about buying this rack, you're probably already aware of how it works. It's a mystery to me why Kohler only provides a rack for one side of the sink. It's probably for the same reason they don't include the strainer, which will set you back an additional $100 if you want matching stainless (so they can profit even more). You can get a strainer for $5 at a big box home store, but the metal color might not match, according to my wife. Finally, if you're considering purchasing this rack, you should be aware that you have no other choice but to bite the bullet and purchase it. Just keep in mind that the small feet on this rack, as well as the rack that comes with the sink, will collect gunk and possibly rust. I take the rubber feet out about once a month and use fine steel wool to remove the minor rust; I suppose that's the price of having fashionable kitchen products.
The smart-divide sink from Vault is what I have. The larger (left) basin comes with a grate similar to this one. This is for the small (right) basin, which works the same way. It's best for preventing pots and other items from scratching the sink's bottom. The grate's pattern is large enough that you can use the faucet hose to clean most of it out of the way. It's also light enough to be easily removed and set aside for a deeper clean.
The large basin of the sink I bought already had this, but it didn't come with the rack for the smaller basin, and after about a month, I noticed a couple of minor scratches and decided I couldn't let that happen any longer, so I bought this right away. In my opinion, it does an excellent job and improves the appearance of the sink.
Although it claims to be extra large, it only covers half of my farm sink. Very dissatisfied.
It went together perfectly.
The only complaint I have is that I had to purchase these in order to keep the sink from scratching. A sink worth $400 should not be scratched so easily. Even with the rubber feet, the fit is perfect, but it slides a little. I attempted to buy and cut a generic rubber mat, but it was unsightly and didn't fit properly or provide the protection I desired.
Great.
In my Kohler sink, it performs as expected.
