These screws (1/4-inch diameter) were used to replace the wood floor on my utility trailer. Floorboard Thread Cutting Screws (20 x 2 1/2 Flat Head Floorboard Thread Cutting Screws). I used 2X8 treated lumber and didn't break or strip any of them. The key is to drill a 7/32 pilot hole through the wood as well as the metal frame.
These flooring screws don't have anything to dislike about them. Screwing 5/4" white oak planks to the steel frame of my utility trailer is a breeze with them. Simply drill a 13/64" pilot hole through the plank and into the steel, then torque them down with a drill or an impact wrench equipped with a T30 driver. Because the screws are self-threading, they firmly grip the planks. Friction is reduced by treating the screws. The parts of the screw that extend below the steel frame will rust and become difficult to remove over time, so paint them where they're exposed to the elements.

These were the original screws that were used when it was built. I was able to remove 70% of the original screws that made for quick work. I only had to drill a pilot hole for the others, and the screws took care of the rest. TORX head screws are superior to Philips heads in that they rarely strip out.
THESE ARE NOT DRILLABLE ON THEIR OWN. I guess I misinterpreted the purpose of these. I have a steel-framed trailer on which I needed to install pressure-treated wood decking. This product was discovered through a Google search. These, on the other hand, ARE NOT self-contained. drill. If a hole already exists, they tap it. But that wasn't the reason I bought them. I desired to be self-sufficient. Screws that are self-drilling or self-tapping. This isn't the type of droid you're looking for.
We searched all of the local stores but could only find 1/4" screws of this type, so I went to Amazon and found exactly what he needed at a reasonable price! I ordered them and received them in five days! He had finished the trailer's flooring job without breaking a single screw! This is an excellent item.
The 5/4 Treated Deck Boards were installed two days ago on a UT Aluminum Utility Trailer. (Instead of 1/2" Marine Plywood, replace it with 3/4" Marine Plywood. ) br>br>These Deck Screws did an excellent job. I used a 3/16" bit to pre-drill all of the holes. br>br>With a 1/4" DeWalt 18v Driver, they went in like a hot knife in butter once the self tapping part of the screws brought the hole up to proper diameter. I tapped the screws just below the surface to counter sink them. br>br>Excellent product, quick delivery, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!.
I purchased these, as well as a 10-pack of cigarettes. based on other reviewers' recommendations, I bought a drill bit set and several driver bits and replaced the floorboards in my wife's 2-bedroom apartment. Trailer for a horse named Sundowner. It worked perfectly! There are no issues! I purchased the larger box of bolts because I intend to work on my 16-foot flatbed at some point.
