Brass is not the material of the screws. As I screwed the first in, I hit a tough spot, and the head started to strip, exposing a different metal inside. I believe they're Using a glue gun, I initially stuck them all (five numbers) into place. By doing this, I was able to ensure that they were all properly spaced before screwing them permanently I only had one issue, which was that my number 6 came with several blemishes. I think untreated brass screws, however, would be fine. I saw half a dozen little marks that couldn't be scrubbed out, as if a drill had slipped across a part of it. There clearly was something wrong with the factory as the number was wrapped in plastic just like the rest of them. The thought of returning it had occurred to me, but I installed it nonetheless. Who is going to notice?
