Questions & Answers

Is it effective in preventing mice from entering?

The rubber is quite stiff and does a good job of keeping water out, so mice should be kept out.

Is there a chance that this product will leave black (skid) marks on a light-colored floor?

By blocking the area between the threshold and the door, a door sweep prevents air from flowing under the door from the outside. Never let it come into contact with the ground. If it does, it's possible that your door isn't at a 90-degree angle to the floor (as it is in our 150-year-old farm house). So I bumped it up a notch and everything is fine now.) Best of luck with your project.

Is it best to put on both sides of an outside door that opens inward and has to cross the wooden threshold?

Install one only on the inside of the door to allow it to open. On the outside, one would have to go over the lip of the threshold and pry the door open.

Is it possible to install it in a door that does not have a threshold? I need to keep bugs and air out of an interior door, but I can't use a saddle because it will damage the laminate. ?

It is going to slide across the floor. You won't be able to use a doormat or a rug in your home.

I ordered the "heavy duty" sweep and was disappointed with how flimsy it was, so I wish I had ordered this one first
4/5

I was hesitant to try the commercial version (again) based on a crappy photo because it was roughly the same thickness as a dime. This appeared to me to be thick neoprene - which would be incompatible with my application due to the textured flooring surface. br>br>In my photo, I tried to capture the difference: "Heavy duty" is on the left, while "commercial" is on the right. br>br>M receives a one-star rating due to the poor quality of the images. I hope this information is useful to others.

Very good quality
5/5

We had a large gap under the door leading into the house from the garage, and the air conditioning (and heat in the winter) escaping through that gap was not only inefficient, but it was also attracting flies into the house, where the temperature is more comfortable for both humans and flies! br>br>I read a lot of reviews before deciding on this door sweep because I wanted something commercial-grade, not flimsy or stuck on with adhesive that would fall off. This one has given me a lot of pleasure. br>br>What I like:br>br>Both the aluminum and the rubber are extremely durable and will last for a long time. br>It was advertised for high traffic areas. We use this door a lot, so we needed a high-quality product that was securely attached. br>With the four screws included, it was simple to put together. All I had to do was draw a line across the bottom of the door at the desired height, mark the drill holes, and drill pilot holes for the screws. br>This door sweep measures 36 inches wide, but my door is only 32 inches wide. I was able to cut the aluminum strip quickly and neatly with a hacksaw. I cut the end of the door closest to the hinge so that the slightly rough (cut) end would not be visible. I was also able to cut the rubber to size with a pair of scissors, making it slightly longer than the aluminum. br>br>This is pre-installed. drilled with four holes—which is fine, except that when I reduced the length from 36" to 32", I completely removed the fourth hole. I was able to easily drill a new hole, leaving me with four evenly spaced holes and the ability to use all four of the screws provided. br>br>The only thing I don't care for is: br>The holes in the aluminum didn't quite line up with the rubber holes. That's not a big deal because I just drilled a new hole through the rubber, and because the rubber is inserted into and behind the aluminum, the old holes are hidden. It was only a minor inconvenience. br>br>The product photo provided by the seller does not show the entire door sweep—it only shows two pre-installed panels. 6 screws but no drilled holes, giving the impression that there are 6 pre-drilled holes. holes that have been drilled There are four different types of pre-existing conditions. 4 screws are included, as well as drilled holes in the 36" door sweep. If you need to shorten the length to fit your door, you'll almost certainly have to cut off one of the pre-cut sections. If you want to attach the door sweep with all four screws, you may need to drill a new hole, just like I did. br>br>Once installed, this door sweep is ideal for keeping the A/C in the house and flies out. At only $10, it's also a STEAL. I paid 62 dollars for it; others charge three times that. br>br>Overall, I am very pleased with it and would recommend it to others. I took several pictures to demonstrate how sturdy and secure it is, as well as how well it seals the gap beneath the door. br>br>I write honest reviews to assist others in making well-informed purchases because I value the information they provide. I hope you found my evaluation useful!.

A residential door closer may not self-close due to the thickness and stiffness of the rubber strip
3/5

the door is shut The rubber strip is thicker at the bottom than it appears in the Amazon product images, and it does not taper toward the bottom. When I installed it on a screen door, the rubber was so thick that the pneumatic door closer couldn't close it. When I raised the strip up a bit (after drilling new holes in the metal) so that the door would self-close, I had to drill new holes in the metal. close, the rubber strip was so thick that it left a 1/4-inch gap under the door. This gap was nearly identical to what I had prior to installing the strip. So, after two hours of tinkering with this door sweep, I realized I had made a mistake in purchasing it.

This was an excellent purchase
5/5

I live in an apartment and didn't want to deal with the inconvenience of having to wait for maintenance to replace this item. My previous one had a large chunk missing on the left side, which served as a draft tunnel. I'd been keeping the cold out with a towel all winter. br>br>I'm so glad I purchased this. I don't have a hack saw, so I couldn't cut it to the exact length, but it's almost perfect; it's only about half an inch too long. This made a huge difference because the door still closes properly. There will be no drafts any longer. It's a good product that gets the job done, in my opinion.

Not suitable for the installation of Steel Security Doors
3/5

The product appears to be adequate for its intended purpose. This is for a steel security door that I ordered. It is extremely difficult to set up. The hole for the screws provided must be drilled and tapped. The screws that are included in the package are made of a very soft material. When fastened to steel door holes, the screw easily snapped off. br>Perhaps you should ensure that your attached surface is made of a FLAT and SOFT material (such as wood or sheet metal).

The design is extremely durable
5/5

The design is extremely durable. In less than 5 minutes, I had it cut down to size and installed. I like how they include extra rubber on both sides of the metal piece, allowing the rubber to be cut a little wider than the door and thus better sealing any gaps around the door. The rubber piece is quite thick, and I don't expect it to wear out any time soon. br>br>In response to customer complaints that the rubber holes did not line up with the metal predrilled holes: Mine arrived in a similar manner, but it's made of rubber. Simply drill a new hole through it or, as I did, simply drive the screws through.

Although the door seep is stiff, it is still usable
4/5

I wouldn't say I "love" this door sweep adapter, but it's good enough for me to leave a review. Right away, I deduct one star because the rubber portion is made of a VERY stiff rubber product that isn't exactly flexible, so expect to hear this rubber scrape against any uneven surface with every door opening if you want a snug fit (like I did). br>br>I bought this to replace a worn-out one on my inner garage door, and now the rubber scrapes against a metal plate in the door's threshold every time I go in and out of the garage. I bought this a few months ago, and despite the wear and tear, the rubber still appears to be holding its shape. I suppose that indicates the product's long-term viability.
