I knew when I installed this that the two guide pieces had to be perfectly aligned in order for the rod to slide up and down, or sideways if you're mounting it horizontally, because I've used smaller and less sturdy ones before for other applications. It's difficult to move the rod if it's slightly out of alignment, which is the situation I found myself in. I didn't require a rod that was this thick and sturdy, but I did require the length. This was used to hold open a door in a storage area beneath my trex dry system 6' elevated deck. That is why, in terms of ease of installation, I gave it three stars. I give it a four star rating for ease of use, but if the guide brackets aren't perfectly aligned, you'll have to give it a two or one star rating. If they're perfectly aligned, which is difficult to achieve, you'll get a five-star rating for ready to use. This is a very solid piece. It has been in use for about 60 days and has shown no signs of rust, despite the fact that it has been exposed to rainwater on several occasions. I have a plastic pipe in the ground about 2 inches above ground level into which I drop the metal rod (to hook the door open when the wind blows). I began with a one. I wish I had just used a 2-inch plastic pipe instead. or a minimum of 1 1/2 in. It will be easier to lift the bolt from its top holder and drop it into the ground pipe with a larger diameter pipe. With the one inch, you have to be a little more precise, which makes it slower and takes up a little more time.
It prevents your shed door from being blown shut by the wind. If your shed sits on a raised gravel base, the extra length comes in handy. Just long enough to get to the ground while keeping the door open.
Looks like a great product; too bad it didn't arrive in its entirety; the box has so many holes in it that I'm surprised any of it arrived at all. This is unusable for me due to one bracket (the hold up bracket).
This is what I nailed to the wooden gate. It maintains the gate's open position. Heavy-duty construction.
I'm using it as a gate latch horizontally. br>It's been out in the elements for about a year with no problems, and the finish is still as good as it was when I installed it. It isn't moved very often, but it is completely exposed to the elements, including sun, rain, snow, heat, and cold. br>br>I realize it's just a piece of steel with some very basic hardware, but it's doing the job I asked it to do without any problems.
This is an excellent purchase. This was a LOT thicker than I expected. Especially since I bought the one that had "cosmetic damages. " There are no flaws in my opinion! My new privacy fence will look great with it! Bravo.
It's well-made, with good mounting hardware.
Keeps one stupid shed door open while closing the other two. Worth it.
