3 inches. It's just enough to keep you safe when you're watching. It's primarily used to put a stop to my 4-year-old son's antics. year old to escape by opening the knobs, lol
Yes. If both sides are flush, that is ideal. If not, a couple of DIY shims will do the trick.
Yes, my first order included them, but the second time I placed an order, it did not. Make contact with Amazon.

I purchased the two-pack, one for my patio door and the other for my front door, and I am now more secure.
The stainless steel security door latch has a nice appearance. It took me less than 3 minutes to add some extra security to my front door using only a power drill. The door latch is sturdy and reliable.
My 3- Even with the safety door handles on, a 12-year-old figured out how to open doors. We ordered this Home Security Lock after he opened a door on the outside. He couldn't open an outside door after only a few minutes of trying. I can turn away knowing he won't be able to escape through a door. Although it does not replace parenting, it does provide peace of mind when you have a child who is an escape artist.
The rings that were supposed to keep the screws in place fell off easily during installation.
I was about to purchase a chain lock when I came across this 2-in-1 lock. pack. It appears to be more attractive, and there are no hanging parts to fiddle with. It's also made of solid metal rather than a weak chain. On the kitchen side door, I mounted one of these. All you have to do now is make sure the two parts are the same height, which will vary depending on how your door is installed. For a first-time install, it took about 15 minutes. It does exactly what it says. I just wanted something to keep someone from pushing their way in if you opened the door a crack to talk (which is less likely these days!).
Have your children mastered the art of opening doors? If that's the case, this could be exactly what you're looking for. br>br>Because my toddler can reach and open doorknobs, my wife and I were afraid she'd open the basement door. They will be able to open the door but not pass through because of the latch at the top of the door. She can no longer fall down the stairs because of this. If you're wondering why I didn't get a lock or a deadbolt, it's because they'll be able to open them and fall down the stairs once more. Do you want to spend every time you go down the stairs looking for a key to open a deadbolt? What if there's a tornado or another type of disaster? This latch is much easier to use and performs much better. It is equipped with a spring and pin system that allows it to be locked in three different positions. Open, latched, and straight out. As a result, we have 0*, 90*, and 180*. My kids will know how to use stairs and not wreck themselves by the time they can reach the latch, which is simple but effective. If you have children who wander or who may open the door for strangers, you can put this on your entry doors as well. They have the ability to open it, but only to the extent of an inch: ) It's always better to be on the safe side.
For a perfect fit, spacers are included. The hinge has a resistance that prevents it from freely swinging and keeps it in place. After our toddler walked out the back door, we decided to install them. This is no longer the case. He has a firm grasp on reality.
For my backdoor, this is a nice simple lock. Installation was a breeze thanks to the clear instructions. It was amusing that the packaging was far nicer than expected. Electronics have been packaged with less care in the past. I'd purchase it again if I needed more locks.
