Questions & Answers

I'm curious about the rod's diameter. ?

I was about to say 1/2" when I noticed that others had said 5/8." br>It's slightly larger than 1/2 inch but not quite 5/8 inch, so I'd say 9/16". br>I took a picture with a measuring tape, but I can't seem to find a place to upload it.

Is it possible to attach the guides to the gate using Welding?

Yes, but it will ruin the finish, and you will have to keep the paint on it after welding. I was blown away by how sturdy these are. These aren't available at your neighborhood store.

Is it possible to install the brackets on the outside of the gate rather than the inside?

Yes, as I did with one of my gates, but keep in mind that if it can be opened from the front, it won't be secured if it's a double gate.

As a result, it isn't completely bare metal. When you slide the rod into its brackets, does it make a screech noise?

It's not painted, and it slides through the bracket.

Sturdy
4/5

It has a single-piece, solid steel rod that is extremely durable. The black finish is of high quality and does not easily scratch. The L- The rod is well secured by the shaped mounting brackets. Because my gate was made of steel, I used stainless steel bolts instead of wood screws. My previous drop rod was a little too short. This one is long enough that I don't have to bend over to open it, and it locks in the up position with a quick 90-degree rotation of the rod, so I don't have to hold the rod in my hand while doing so. The only minor criticism is that the metal tabs that hold the rod in place are a little tight. To get the tabs to fit through the hole, a little jiggling is required. Also, the top of the handle is a little short; I'd prefer something that I could wrap my entire hand around. For me, it's not a big deal, but it's a little difficult for my elderly mother to open. I would have designed the tabs with a small wedge to aid in their passage through the openings. Nonetheless, especially considering the low price, this is a very good quality drop rod.

It's a breeze to put together and extremely durable
5/5

We had a new fence built, complete with a double-wide 6 ft gate for a total width of 12 feet. br>The fence was installed with a single drop rod on one side of the gate and only the latch on the other. br>During some heavy rain storms, the wind was pretty strong, and I could see the second gate blowing out from the bottom, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't damaged in a future storm. br>br>I added this heavy-duty drop rod to the second gatebr>It was simple to installbr>It makes the gate very sturdy, even in bad weather. br>The only drawback (which isn't really a drawback for me) is that the gate can only be opened from the inside due to the drop rods on both panels of the 12ft gate. It serves as a safety and security feature in my opinion. Unwanted visitors on the outside are unable to open the gates.

Steel is used extensively
5/5

Drop rods were required for two large metal-framed windows that were 6' tall and 10' wide. wooden gates with a frame They're a LOT of weight. In addition, the ground slopes down where the gate swings open, necessitating the use of longer rods. These drop rods are more than capable of handling the job. It's very adaptable and simple to set up and operate. This is ideal for my needs. br>br>After two years, I've made the following change: Others have expressed dissatisfaction with the finish's lack of durability. Each of my two gate panels has a single drop rod. On one of them, the brackets were perfectly aligned. It glides easily up and down, and the paint finish is still in good condition after about 100 uses. On the other hand, I wasn't quite as successful in aligning things. The finish on the rod where it passes through the bracket has been rubbed off, and it's now sticky. I live in a humid climate, but it hasn't affected me yet. You won't have any issues if you take a few minutes to double-check that everything is in order. br>br>I'm going to buy two more of these to replace my swinging barn doors.

Although the finish is attractive, it is not long lasting
4/5

UPDATE: The item was replaced without difficulty by the company. I've had it for two months and am happy with its performance and value for the money. br>br>Original post: It has a nice look, is sturdy, and appears to be a good value, but the finish is literally peeling off after only two (2) days of use. I'm not sure if it was just a bad batch, or if that's why the price was so low, but the finish was clearly not applied properly because it was peeling off so easily, resulting in rust. This is frustrating because 16 screws have already been drilled into my expensive gates, so it's not as simple as returning them and buying something else. Note that the manufacturer promptly offered to send a replacement at no cost, so we'll see how that one works.

INSTALLATION IN A FEW MINUTES - AWESOME PROP FOR A GATE
5/5

I've seen contractors and yard crews use everything but the kitchen sink to prop open my backyard access gate, and this little gate holder is the best thing that could happen to any gate you need to hold open for any period of time, long or short. All of the hardware was included in the package, and the instructions were simple and easy to understand (NO KIDDING). This baby went into operation in about 15 minutes and worked the first time and every time. This drop rod comes highly recommended. It's better than using a rock, a 2x4, or anything else to prop open your gate in a pinch. It also appears to be quite appealing.

Rod is a little thicker than I thought it would be
5/5

Before putting the kit in place, I had to cut a two-by-four and stain it. If you have a metal gate, you might be able to make this work, but it's best for the typical wooden gate. If the guides are not aligned straight, i. e. The 2x4 is warped, and the upper and lower guides do not provide a straight path for the rod to travel; you may need washers for shimming, or your rod will not fall to the ground as it should. The hardware performed admirably. This was not only the cheapest but also the best value for money option I discovered.

The painted finish was damaged due to poor packaging for delivery
3/5

The drop rod itself appears to be thick and sturdy enough to be used on a PVC fence gate that is 6 feet tall. The lifting rod position locks are a little awkward to use because they require twisting the rod and aligning multiple slots in order to move it up and down. The damage to painted surfaces caused by packaging and handling is a bigger issue for me. Drop rod comes pre-assembled with the mounting brackets already attached. As a result, the pieces bang against each other during shipping. Amazon doesn't help matters by shipping the pre-packaged item in a shipping box that is far too large and contains almost no packing materials - The drop rod was protruding from the Amazon box when it arrived. Sections of the drop rod will be repainted.

Stabilize your double gate with a tough steel rod
5/5

A well-designed, thick rod with brackets is used to secure one side of your double gate. It's important to keep in mind that the bottom bracket should be as close to the ground as possible. If your gate is 6 feet tall like mine, you might need to add a 2x4 to an adjustable gate frame, but it was a simple modification. br>br>Align the brackets carefully to prevent the rod from binding: It needs to be silky smooth. To keep the two brackets perfectly aligned, all it took was a small wood shim under the bottom bracket.
