This is a replacement for a knocker with identical vertical mounting holes spaced exactly 5" apart. Are you asking about the hole mount spacing when you mention 5 5/16?

As soon as I installed the one I bought from Amazon, I measured the distance between the two screws. According to the manufacturer's literature, the distance between it and the door is 3 15/16". Unless there are two sizes (as may be) I believe the 5 5/16" refers to the height
Editor's note From looking at the item number on my old order, it appears that I had purchased this exact model door knocker from Amazon. The face of the knocker now on my door measures 5" across. maybe Amazon has mixed up the specs on the item page because the item page mentions both the smaller and larger sizes?

If you want to know what the spacing between holes is, you need to measure the distance between hole centers. In a situation where 4 1/4 inches is indicated, then the measurement is not standard. The center-to-center spacing for this knocker is 4 1/16 inches, so this knocker cannot be used. It might be wise to opt for a knocker with wider spacing in that case. After that, you could fill in one of the existing holes, drill a new hole to the proper spacing for the new knocker and use that one.

There is an error in the title, which states it to be 5 5/16 in length, but the dimensions state it to be 8 1/2 in length. Do you know what it is? It would be too big for my door if I bought the 8 1/2. ?

Nice little door knocker

A nice, small one. In order to replace my damaged original, I had to get a new, similar one. Originally, I wanted to go a bit larger, but those would not have fit the bolt spacing in the original wheels. After carefully taking measurements and considering the reviews, I decided this one was for me. My result turned out to be very satisfying. The brass is of a high quality, very heavy weight, fits perfectly, is easy to attach and looks very nice.

You did a great job. Because the holes go straight through the door, installation is a bit finicky since they have to be as straight and exact as possible. The book is worth it in my opinion. My doorbell is now perpetually in working order, so I don't have to worry about it.

The antique bronze finish goes very well with the other hardware on my door. The door knocker is well constructed and decorative as well. Even though the product is of high quality, it was very expensive for such a small, simple door knocker. In addition, even though the product was being shipped from an independent retailer, it was slow to arrive. Previously, I have ordered from Amazon and received my products within a few days.
