To fit into them, you'd have to have a pretty narrow rear end since the ones I got were only 8" x 14". It doesn't matter, however, because I don't think they could be structurally sturdy enough That would crack the grout joints if the tile was flexed enough. The soap and shampoo we use with it work great - Frame a niche in a much faster manner than framing a general audience.

Can you tell me how thick the front flange of the niche is? The article says that thinset can be surface mounted and transitioned, but if the thinset is too thick, how would you do that?

Despite its thinness, the edge is strong. The edges of the thinset were feathered out. As a result of not having any idea what I was doing as well as the fact that I was using a 12 X 24 tile vertically, I encountered a bit of an issue. If I had used smaller tiles, it would have been easier to transition from one level to another. I cut out tiles for the sides and top and bottom, and added a glass mosaic at the back. The backer board should be cut down by an 1/8 inch where the flange goes using a dremel or appropriate tool and the niche level should be mounted. In either case, the result will be the same.

The instructions say that the tile should be installed over the backer board and thinset should be applied to "feather out" the edges. It seems that this should be installed flush with the backer board. Can it not be done?

As directed, I then proceeded to the next step. After you thin set with mesh over the backing board and the lip of the Nietzche, you will need to install it on top of the backer board

Adhesion with polymer thinset is poor and the wall is too shallow for this to reach the opposite side
3/5

A fatal flaw and a deal breaker exist in this product. First of all, you need to consider how deep the niche is. The product I used in my master bath before wasn't the one I'm using now. Its width and depth allowed it to be inserted into a stud bay and reach the walls on the other side of the stud to provide a rigid surface for support. The niches aren't all of the same size. There is a gap between the cement board and drywall on the other side of the 2x4 studs when the cement board is installed against the standard 2x4 studs. The gap is Since I had previous experience with EZ-Pay, I assumed it would be similar My neglect was in inspecting the spacing between niches, and this is how the niches were designed. Due to the thinness of materials used for these niches, The plastic will flex if it is panel molded. A view of the backs of two EZ-folds It was easy for niches I installed to flex. In this case, you will need to add an edge-based firewall There will be no problem when it comes to spanning ceramic tile. Some people install glass mosaics in niches, to go with simpler field tiles, in order to serve as accents. I also followed a similar path. It was easier to fix this problem by drilling holes through the drywall on the other side and filling in the gap with expanding foam insulation. In addition, thinset does not adhere to the plastic, which is a completely unacceptable act. The material I chose was Mepei polymer - A thin layer of enriched fat It's done. It is recommended by Alpinebay to use this type of thin wire You'll "be able to form a solid bond" if you adhere to the set. No, that's not the case! My children's bathroom had been modified over an extended period of time, and I was nearly finished grouting the niches. While we had used the proper thinset quantity and type, I noticed that the glass mosaic tiles in the back of the niche were not adhered. The non-essential material has been removed It was glued to the backing section, but when I pulled it out, I realized no piece of mosaic was properly bonded. I was able to remove all of it without difficulty. An extra blow came when one of the ceramic tiles around the perimeter, a bullnose, fell off. In the meantime, I have the second niche below this one, and I am afraid all of the tiles will not have a "strong bond" and will fall off at some point. In the absence of being able to remove them, and having already installed and grouted the entire tub surround, I must come up with an alternative Although I do not think I have any more bullnose ceramic left, I do have a few more sheets of the mosaic left. It would be great if I could use rubber cement or Powergrab from Loctite, which is available in caulk tubes. I've contacted the manufacturer to find out what can be done. It is not a product I would recommend.

The process of building a custom niche is much faster using this tool
5/5

Last year I remodeled my shower, and I wish I had been aware of this product earlier. No need to cut or tape cement board, check the angle on the front ledge, etc. Don't worry about feathering the edges follow directions and place the EZ Niche OVER your cement board. Then use thinset to feather out as shown in the If you are using a premium polymer, make sure it is high quality- This thinset has been modified. Stay away from stuff that comes in buckets and tubs. A flex can be felt in the back. My solution was to apply thinset to the back surface where it meets the drywall so that it cannot unravel. There will be no more flexing. It's a good idea to allow yourself an extra two days to ensure the thinset cures well and adheres to the tile.

My experience with improper installation instructions has cost me money and time
3/5

If lip is not flush with wall, then it is too far away. After my contractor advised me that the lip must be flush with the wall and not protrude over the wall, I had to rip it out of the As mentioned in the instructions, there is a step for "feathering" the lip so that it blends in with the wall, but this actually creates an uneven surface that you will notice when you add the tile. The cost of this project increased due to the need to buy a second niche, cut out more cement board to make this niche flush with the shower wall, and expand the cement board to make this niche fit.

I don't think this is a bad niche choice
4/5

They are simple to install and handy to have. It would be best to use an oscillating tool with a diamond attachment to grind a small depression (of the outline of the niche) into the cement board if you want your tile to be I do this for a living and my customers expect super flat. Feathering the flange with thinset as they say in the directions will work for the most part, but I do this for a living and my customers expect this.

An elegant and simple niche for the shower
5/5

I am impressed with this product and how easy it is Additional instructions for installation of the device could have been provided in the instructions. The two are part of a project I built a new shower in this past Due to the lack of alignment between the niche and the existing stud, I had to add some additional 2 x 4 bracing on both sides of it. Using silicon to coat the backside of the flange, I mounted it with stainless steel screws into the mounting studs. After a day to cure, I tiled the niche. Overall, I was pleased with how the presloped sides leave no puddles behind. Those of us who tiled ours used a simple design.

A review of the EZ-Art 14in x 22in and 14in x 14in Aside from NICHES arches, Alpine Bay sold and shipped other products as well
5/5

As far as I can tell, the photos are not appearing on this review according to the order of installation. The tile work I did on the bathroom wall to create both niches was done by me. Basically, these are "work still in progress" images the wall and tiling are not completed yet. We are both very pleased with the arches that were shipped and sold by Alpine Bay. They were received in a timely manner and were easy to install on the studs. We are both very happy with the 14in x 22in and 14in x 14in It is planned to order more EZ-Zip books in the future In the shower, you should install NICHES.

The exact thing I was looking for
5/5

The niche you've chosen is fantastic! Sideways so that I could fit taller bottles in there! We had to frame around this, which made the installation a bit more challenging. I am very happy with the way.

Adding dividers to the EZ SRN, sideways, is what made this niche uniquely usable
3/5

We couldn't find a housing that worked for us with several areas in one, so we bought a EZ SRN and added two of these dividers to it. I am really happy with the way it turned out. We didn't have to work too hard cutting the dividers to size. It was difficult to get them to lay flat against the bowed back of the niche. As received, insert the divider so that the front edges are flush with the front edge of the niche before the back edges hit the bow in the back. This requires a fairly high level of skill and patience in order to cut, sand, and scrape the back of the divider so that it will fit properly. After that, we adhered the dividers with polyseamseal tub and tile kitchen and bathroom ultra. There isn't much sticking, but it seems to stick fairly.
