Questions & Answers

Is it necessary to use the entire package immediately after opening it, or can it be resealed and used later?

About two-thirds of a package sufficed for my needs. Resealed. After a week, I used about half of what was left. Resealed. Except for the portion I accidentally put in contact, it still appears to be usable; it's a binary thick paste, similar to modeling clay. Kneed together with fingers for a long time to activate. It takes about 15 minutes for the hardening process to complete.

Is it possible to use this to replace a broken corner of a wooden drawer?

Without a doubt. I used it to patch nail holes and replace a few corners.

Is it possible to use wood stain on this product?

Yes, but I've always sealed the filler first, then matched the background color of the wood grain, sealed again, then added the actual wood color on top of the 2nd coat of sealer, sealed again, painted in grain lines, and sealed again to control the amount of pigment. Sealer (lacquer, polyurethane, etc.) is a type of finish that is usually applied with a spray gun.

Will this work to repair cracks in a post on the outside?

This product can be used to fill cracks on the outside of your home. and keep it in tact - So long as the wood isn't submerged in water, that is. Make certain the project is completely dry before moving on - Before you start, make sure the crack is clean.

I make it a point to keep some on hand at all times
5/5

This is fantastic information! For more than 5 years, I've been using it to make simple wood repairs. To those who left negative reviews, here are some pointers:
1. Because it's an epoxy, the proportions must be exact - Rather than pinching it, cut it with a knife. Only cut what you'll need in the next five minutes. Because it will become less pliable over time, wait 10 minutes. br>2. It should be thoroughly mixed. In most cases, kneading takes no more than 2 minutes. There should be no color streaks, and everything should be the same color. Once it's in the right spot, stop touching/straining it and apply it immediately.
3. Before putting it under high stress, wait until it has cured (1 hour).
4. Keep the unused portion of the meal in its original container and seal it as tightly as possible.
5. If you're using an older product that's been sitting for a while and feels hard, warm it in the oven for about 15 minutes (at 180°F). It'll soften and blend well. My only complaints (which I put up with because I haven't found anything better) are:
1. It's a little pricey to use for free. If it wasn't so expensive, I could, for example, completely reform parts or fill large gaps. br>2. Doesn't absorb stains - It's actually waterproof; you can paint it like wood, but the stain won't soak through.
3. There isn't much of a shelf life. I'd buy a lot of it just to make sure I had some on hand, but it only lasts about two years in the fridge. br>br>Kwikwood works best with wood. Other products (for example, steel and plastic versions) are far more effective for general repairs.

This is ideal for screw holes that have been stripped
5/5

I ordered an Ikea-assembled display cabinet, but it was damaged during delivery - It was shrink wrapped too tightly, and all of the hinges on the sides were ripped out. br>br>Because the holes were damaged rather than simply stripped, this appeared to be the best option for repairs. br>It's a lot like playing with playdoh in terms of ease of use and messiness. If you don't fold it together right before using it, it won't set. br>br>The perfect tools for filling in the holes were a disposable knife and a teasing comb. Plus, before it sets, you can easily poke pilot holes with the handle.

The product is simple to use and the directions are clear
5/5

You will not be sorry if you purchase this if your dog chews everything. This product saved my life because we were renting a house and our dog was determined to show that if he set his mind to it, he could ruin anything. As a result, he gnawed on our house's wood siding. I was planning on hiring a handyman because I have no experience with wood repairs, but I came across this product and decided to give it a shot. The product is simple to use and the directions are clear. Because it dries quickly, I was able to paint over it and complete the repair in one day. Just make sure it's not in reach of pets or children because it smells like peanut butter! Although my repair isn't flawless, I'm pleased with it. I'm sure I saved a few hundred dollars! When the product has dried to a cream color, it is ready to be painted!.

This is an excellent product
4/5

There are a few caveats, however. For basic repairs, this is excellent stuff. It's a breeze to work with and hardens quickly to a rock-solid consistency. I used it to repair the curved edge of a dresser, and it was easy to mold into shape and blend in with the undamaged wood around it. br>br>With that in mind, there are two caveats. 1. br>br> If it stains at all, it stains well. After I finished the repair and tried to stain it, I read on the internet that it's best to mix the stain with the KwikWood while kneading it to get it ready to use. That is something I would have done if I had had the opportunity. The stain I used after that looks fine, but it took an eternity to dry, and I'm not sure it'll ever fully cure. As a result, I'm hesitant to keep it sealed. It's a big dresser that you'll only move once in a while, but I could see the stain coming off your hands if you had to grip it tightly to pick it up or move it. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br It hardens when exposed to air. It's difficult to sand this stuff after it's completely hardened, so make sure it's in the final shape you want it to be before it hardens completely. I have no regrets because I did it. However, there are a couple of minor waves that I thought could be easily smoothed out with sand, but this proved to be extremely difficult; these are minor issues, so I let them go. Regardless, with the aforementioned caveats, highly recommended.

It was very simple to use this product
5/5

This literally saved my life! One of the pillars in our apartment was chewed to bits by my mischievous dog. It was very simple to use this product. Simply rip off a piece and manipulate it in your hands to change the texture and make it moldable. After that, I covered the damaged area with that. I carried on with the process (allowing about 15 minutes - After I got it to the size I needed (slightly higher than the surrounding edges), I let it dry overnight and then sanded it down to smooth out the edges and make it even with the surrounding areas because there was a very deep chunk missing and it was easier to build it up that way instead of trying to shape a huge amount of product. It's been freshly painted and it's looking fantastic! br>br>I accidentally deleted the "before" photo, but I've uploaded the "after. " After that, I added a second layer of paint to blend it in a little better, but I think it turned out really well!.

Normally, this is a fantastic product for wood repair, but For years, I've been using this to repair wood
3/5

It's the most excellent product I've ever seen. It doesn't take stain well, but others have suggested that. My most recent batch came in the longer tubes, but instead of the 7" sticks, there were two smaller ones. My previous order included tubes containing the entire 7" stick length. I have plenty of the smaller sticks, so that isn't an issue; it's just something I noticed. When I was kneading the last batch, I noticed that the putty had turned white and sticky. Then, in a matter of minutes, it became crumbly and hard. It will usually turn tan and you will be able to work with it for about 15 minutes. Is it possible that this is a faulty batch? I'm hoping they didn't do it on purpose by altering the formula. They don't accept returns, so keep that in mind. My purchase was refunded by an Amazon CSR who was fantastic. If I had to rate this product for the entire time I've used it, I'd give it five stars without hesitation.
