Amperage in both AC and DC
No way, China.
Klein's tools are made in the United States for the most part. As some products are insourced to their USA plants and new product lines are added, the exact percentage changes frequently. Klein has introduced a slew of new US-based products. In recent years, manufactured products (hole-in-the-wall) have become more popular. screwdrivers, fish tapes, utility wrenches, buckets, bags, and so forth). Klein Tools has invested heavily in new equipment and tooling in their plants to expand capacity and quality over the last decade, and has opened four new US manufacturing facilities.
The CL390 has an additional probe holder on the clamp to help with one-handed operation, as well as a slightly different design layout.
Selected User Reviews For Klein Tools CL390 Digital Clamp Meter, Reverse Contrast Display, Auto Ranging 400A AC/DC, AC/DC Voltage,TRMS, DC Microamps, Temp, NCVT, More
I bought this multimeter primarily to use with the clamp to measure DC and AC currents, as I already had a couple of more precise non-contact multimeters. clamp meters are a type of meter. This is a fantastic tool! Because the tool uses an Hall effect sensor, extraneous EM fields from nearby currents can affect accuracy when measuring DC currents, particularly in the more sensitive 40A range. br>For a more accurate measurement, disconnect the power source of what you're measuring, clamp the meter around the cable to be measured, press the meter's relative zero button, reconnect the power source, and then read the measurement.
The tool itself is well-made and performs admirably within its range, which is the most important factor. Although the reverse contrast display is easier to read, the timeout feature can appear to be too short at times. I'm curious if it's possible to change that. Just keep in mind that a good case and a magnetic clip will set you back a few dollars more. Physical positioning is also a part of ease of use. The new case is a complete waste of money. The older ones were lined and more durable, and the meter was also equipped with a built-in magnet. Overall, it's a great meter for the money at $75. The auto-off timer can be a real pain.
It has the elusive DC clamp on amperage meter, which is crucial on 12 volt systems, and I troubleshoot electrical boat issues with it. It's dead on. The digital display has a brightly lit display. After 5 minutes of non-use, it emits a subtle reminder tone. After a brief period of use, it beeps once and then shuts down about a minute later. I hemmed and hawed about this purchase because I wanted a fluke. Probes are high-quality and versatile. This is an absolute must-have.
I'm on my third version of Klein Amp Clamp meters, and it's a good tool. The only gripe I have is that the auto-off feature appears to turn off very quickly. Otherwise, everything appears to be in order.
I'm not usually one to give five stars, but this time it's appropriate. The unit has a solid, well-made feel to it. When tested against known amperage, the clamp-on feature is dead on. So far, I'm pleased with everything about the Klein CL390, including the price, but what really made it a 5 star product was the instruction manual, which was thorough, clear, technically correct, and clearly written by someone who is fluent in English.
Klein Tools is known for producing high-quality products, but this time they fell short. Because of the following reasons:
- The concept of a "high contrast display" is a farce. Outside, it's difficult to see, and if the sun is shining, forget about it. The digits fade when the screen is tilted at an angle. The meter is always set to the lowest brightness level when you turn it on. The "higher" brightness setting isn't deserving of its moniker.
- It will turn on in AC mode, but it will not auto switch if you try to measure 12VDC, as in a car. It's a little difficult to use the selector button to change modes.
- The probe holder on the clamp's side is a good idea, but only if the probe extends further from the clamp.
- Timing out too soon is a recurring problem. br>br>I will not use this meter as my primary meter; it will be replaced by a different model, possibly even a different brad.
This meter is incredible. The meter and temperature probe are easily stored in the case. I attached the magnet to the back of the card. It is easy to put on and take off. It appears to be the ideal situation. For battery checks, the probe simply snaps onto the meter.
The meter is as described, but it seems to fluctuate when measuring amps with the clamp, which I believe is because it is designed to measure higher than I am on a vehicle. The meter and accessories are far too small for the case.
