Questions & Answers

When the power goes out, what happens? Is the light turned on when the power is restored? Is it going to go back to its previous off/on state?

Power On Behavior (which can be found in the Hue app's Settings) currently has three options. You can choose from the following options: Philips Hue default, which will turn your lights back on in full brightness and warm white. According to the Hue app (of which Off is also a state), power loss recovery will cause your lights to turn on with the last used color and brightness. Last but not least, you have the option of selecting custom, which allows you to select your own color and brightness.

Will a second dimmer switch be independent of the first one? I don't want all of the lights to turn on. ?

You'd have to program it to be associated with a specific bulb or group of bulbs, so it'd be independent of your current dimmer and any bulbs you have by default; however, if you buy one of the dimmer packs that includes a bulb, the dimmer may already be paired with that bulb, in which case you'd have to reset the dimmer.

How long does it take the batteries to charge?

It will be determined by how frequently you use it. On the rooms I use on a daily basis, I haven't gotten more than a year. br>br>Be careful not to overtighten the battery door's tiny screw! The screw is easily stripped due to the poor design.

A good product marred by a poor design decision
3/5

Good remote with a nice aesthetic that allows others to control your house's lights more like a normal switch. The remote is held in place by magnets, which is a brilliant idea. However, having a regular "dumb" switch next to this switch is confusing, because guests aren't sure which switch to press (and there appear to be so many switches). As a result, replacing your current dumb switch with this Philips Hue control is a better option. This plate's screw mounting option, however, does not align with standard US junction boxes, so that is not an option! If you want to replace a "dumb" switch, you'll have to tape it over the existing junction box, which is a bit clumsy and inconvenient if you need to access the junction box later. Philips made a bad decision. They should've just included screw holes to align with a junction box so that users could do this. This is especially important when using the remote to control the Philips dowlights.

Although this is cutting-edge technology, installing a wall plate can be difficult
5/5

Even though we were rewiring the entire house and could install hardwired dimmers wherever we wanted, the Hue dimmer technology makes a lot of sense in a few places. We wanted the ceiling fixture in two bedrooms and two plug-in lights in the other two. In order for lamp fixtures to turn on and dim at the same time, they must be synchronized. br>br>My only gripe is that there isn't a neat way to cover or replace the standard switch wall plate that the Hue dimmer functionality has rendered obsolete. I didn't want to remove the standard switch because I didn't want to leave a wiring project for when the Hue system is retired (after all, nothing lasts forever). There is, however, no such thing as an off-limits zone. the- Shelf-based, unified solution for keeping the switch in place while also incorporating the Hue dimmer. br>br>Our clumsy workaround was to use a two-part solution. plate for the gang: The paddle switch that controls the ceiling fixture is connected to the left side of the wall plate in the traditional manner. That switch is held in the ON position by a small piece of clear plastic tape. Then we put a blank filler plate on the right side and glued the magnets from the Phillips mounting plate to the back of the blank plate. This enables the remote to remain on the right side of the wallplate, next to the always-on switch. Using the paddle switch The switch is located where the guest expects it to be when they walk into the room. As long as they don't try to tamper with the paddle switch, that is. br>br>However, if there isn't a small lip or edge below the removable remote, the remote will magnetize slightly off-center against the blank plate. I'll have to make a small ledge or lip to prop the remote perfectly upright. It's worth noting that the magnets do a good job of keeping the dimmer in place.

A convenient way to control Hue lights is now available with the addition of a remote with a wall mount
5/5

For visitors who are unfamiliar with Hue, this is an excellent option. Everything is in order. My Hue setup is fairly straightforward - In my living room, there are only four lamps with four lights. Because none of these lamps are on switched outlets, I can control them by using an app, a voice-activated device, or simply turning them on and off. Using the smart dimmer remote, you can now control the lights in another way. If you have guests or visitors who are unfamiliar with Hue lights or how they work, this is a great feature to have. br>br>This is broken down into two sections: A base, as well as a remote that controls the lights. The remote can be used as a handheld remote or it can be attached to the base using the included magnets. Sticky tape (included) can be used to secure the base to your wall. This makes it simple to mount the base on a wall and add a new "switch" wherever you'd like - There is no need for any wiring or cutting. It's as simple as that. br>br>The remote controls the lights and allows you to cycle through four different light settings as well as adjust their brightness. The four light settings can be cycled through by tapping the on button. If you want to add another way to control your lights or make it easier for guests to control your Hue lights, the first tap of the on button will either turn on the last-used setting or a default setting of your choice. br>br>Highly recommended if you want to add another way to control your lights or make it easier for guests to control your Hue lights.

To go with your HUE lights, this is the perfect switch
5/5

This switch is the most compatible with your HUE lights. I just wish it came with the HUE starter kit at the very least. br>Installation: br>Installation: br>Installation It's that easy. Remove the switch/dimmer from the box, remove the plastic tab protruding from the battery tray, open the HUE app, select Accessories from the settings tab, and click "add. " The app will ask you whether the switch is new and has never been used before, and whether it has previously been used for another light. Simply choose the first option and wait a few moments while it searches for the switch. Once it's connected, it'll ask you which room(s) you want it to control. Choose one and you're done. br>On, off, brighter, and dimmer are the four buttons on the switch. Here's a little something to think about: The "on" button can also be used to change the light's preset or color. br>In the accessory section of the app, select the switch you want to change and choose what happens when you press the "on" button once, twice, three times, four times, and five times: the first press will turn the light on to the settings for when it was last on (you can change this), the second press will make the light turn on to the settings for when the light was last on (you can change this), and the third press will make the light turn on to the settings for when the light was last on Change the "scene" of the lights by pressing the fifth button. br>Overall, I'm very pleased with this, and my wife, who still dislikes talking to Alexa, adores it.
