Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this dimmer with a light that has three light switches?

No, it'll only work with lights that have two or fewer switches.

"120-" is depicted in the photograph. The switch (metal beneath the plate) is stamped with "277 vac." Is that correct? The only reference to 120 volts in the description. 277 is what I'm looking for. thx?

A 240 (nominal) Volt switch is not available. Only 120 (nominal) volts are supported by this device.

Is this a trailing edge dimmer (as opposed to a previous leading edge dimmer)?

I'm not sure, but it's most likely a leading edge dimmer, based on its simplicity.

Several people have asked the same question about how to connect two dimmable switches to a single circuit, but no one has responded. I'm looking for a wiring diagram, but I'm not sure where I can find one. ?

With these switches, you won't be able to do it. The paperwork that came with them stated as much. A dimmer switch could only exist on one switch. In this three-way control circuit, the other switch had to be a standard three-way on/off switch.

But it's not as good as the old incandescent type
4/5

The problem with LED lights is that they consume so little power - only a few milliamps. Only about5 of the amperage of incandescent bulbs they replace are incandescent bulbs they replace are incandescent bulbs they replace are incandescent bu So your old dimmer, which has a much larger current range than is required for LEDs, struggles to control it at the very bottom of the range. It's like riding a lawnmower with a four-barrel carburetor. Furthermore, diodes have a minimum "forward bias" voltage level that must be met in order for them to light up. As a result, using them with dimmers is inherently difficult - Particularly the less expensive ones. br>The instructions state that you must "tune" the circuit to the load when installing this dimmer. This is done by adjusting a screw on the side of the dimmer that is only visible when the wall plate is removed. This adjustment aids in the calibration of the dimmer's range, allowing for greater precision in adjusting the power delivered to the LED lamp. br>It works better than the old incandescent type because it can dim the LED to a lower light level. Low settings also result in less flickering. But . br>I prefer to keep the lights turned down low the majority of the time, and the LED still flickers and shuts off occasionally in that mode. br>Also, the plastic slider can bind and stick if it is not pushed perfectly straight up or down.

I'm not sure how these received such positive feedback
3/5

If the switches are dimmed after installation, they will only turn on intermittently. There appear to be "dead spots" in the system. If the dimmer is set to a certain position, the switch does not turn on the lights. If you're in one of these dead spots, you'll need to put the dimmer on high to get the lights to turn off. The lights are turned on brightly, and they can now be dimmed. br>br>I bought four and am returning them all because they all had the same problem. In my opinion, it is completely useless. I'm not sure how these received such positive feedback.

LED light fixtures flicker when the dimmer is turned up to maximum brightness
3/5

I bought three of these LED Compatible Dimmers to go with these eight ceiling lights. The single dimmer, which controls four 16-watt LED fixtures for a total of 64 watts, solves the problem. The issue is with the two dimmers, each of which controls two 25-watt LED 15-inch light fixtures. [Each dimmer consumes a total of 50 watts]. Work well at the bottom of the range, but when the two dimmers are set to full brightness, all of the lights flicker. Is a load of 50 watts/dimmer too low? br>I contacted the manufacturer of the LED fixture to inquire about the problem. The next day, I received a response from them. I should use a recommended [and more expensive] LED dimmer, according to him. br>I contacted Maxxima [a manufacturer of LED dimmers], and they recommended a workaround. "Place the light at its maximum range and then adjust the knob to see if the flickering stops. " " HOWEVER, the dimmer's lower setting is now effectively OFF, defeating the dimmer's lower setting feature described in the instructions. br>I replaced the dimmer with an on/off switch and got full brightness without any flickering. As a result, the low-cost option A low-cost LED dimmer will not work. br>Purchase of the dimmers suggested. These will almost certainly be used for incandescent lighting. br>In conclusion - that I discovered; dimming systems that are "LED compatible" What you pay for is exactly what you get.

My marriage was saved because of this device
5/5

My marriage was saved because of this device. Okay, that's a little dramatic, but stick with me and I'll explain. When it comes to indoor lighting, my wife and I have opposing tastes: she prefers yellowish, bright lighting, while I prefer white, soft lighting. I prefer soft, dimmed lights at night because I believe they help me fall asleep faster, but my wife prefers bright lights at all times of the day. Every night, I'd go to the bathroom and unscrew a couple of lightbulbs from our bathroom mirror, which meant that every time my wife went into the bathroom, she'd have to screw them back in because I'd usually forget. As you might expect, this was a problem. So, to make a long story short, I purchased this dimmer, and she has been thanking me ever since. At the time of writing, it had been about two days.

Paying a little more for higher quality is a good idea
3/5

I've been using Levitron switches for years and thought I'd give these a shot. I installed these in bedrooms, and they are in charge of four separate rooms. Each light has a power consumption of 23 watts. They work fine when turned all the way up, but the lights don't turn on until the switch is turned about a quarter of the way up. The lower register of the dimmer on Levitron switches works much better and does not completely turn off the lights, as it does on these switches. I'll leave it up to my wife to decide whether or not that's acceptable.

The majority of the time, it works, but there are some issues when using multiple lights
3/5

We plugged it into an outlet for an 8-bulb, 40-watt ceiling lamp. This should have been well below the dimmer's rated wattage, but when we turned it on, it made a loud buzzing noise (which usually means the wattage is too high for the switch). It was fine if we removed half of the bulbs, but It doesn't do what we paid for it, and if we leave all of the bulbs in, the sound is way too grating (not to mention I'm concerned about safety). br>The parts are also made of a cheap-feeling plastic. br>The only advantage I can see is that it's simple to set up, but that's true of most of these things these days.

Problem - This was purchased to replace a previously purchased brand new dimmer that had the same problem - br>After the installation (which I'm used to), I went ahead and adjusted the dimming function
3/5

However - as several other reviewers have stated - If you dim the light too much and then turn it off, the light will not turn back on, and you'll have to increase the dimming level to get the lights to illuminate - which switches to its brightest setting automatically After a lot of adjusting, this appears to be the underlying problem, so I'm giving up on finding the right unit. In any case, I'm returning it.
