Yes, there is a soft rattle/buzzing sound. Mine didn't get it until about a month after I started using it. I'm going to replace mine because I keep it in my bedroom. However, if it's in a less noisy part of the house, it shouldn't bother you too much.

What is the procedure for setting the timer on my computer?
If you have a crockpot with a physical on-off switch, you can use it. Yes, it has an off switch, which means it has a button that stays on even when the crockpot is unplugged. No, unless you have a digital crockpot that requires you to turn on the power when it's plugged in and won't stay on if you unplug it. I suppose you could use the timer for a digital crockpot if you started it right away and set the timer to shut it off at a specific time. You simply will not be able to put off cooking any longer. I hope that clarifies things for you.

In order to keep light on and optimal during the shorter days and longer nights, I'm using a timer in a greenhouse. This timer turns on in the middle of the night, then turns off when it's supposed to, then shuts off in the middle of the day, then turns back on when it's supposed to. This timer is garbage for me and anyone else trying to use it in a fictional setting. This timer, on the other hand, will make it not work properly if you want it to.
I understand that this is a mechanical timer, and that it will, of course, make some noise, but, as other reviewers have stated, the noise gradually increases. br>br>I use this timer in my laundry closet to charge various batteries (AA, AAA, Power Tools, and so on) after 11 p. m. during Georgia Power's "Super Off Peak" period. br>br>At first, I could only hear the timer if the laundry closet door was open. It's gotten louder in recent months, and LOUDER, AND LOUDER! Even with the laundry closet door closed, I can now hear the timer. br>br>While the timer continues to function, the steadily increasing noise leads me to believe that the unit should be replaced.
After reading many reviews, I decided to order this plug-in timer, as well as a different one to try, because many people complained that pushing the pins down on this one was extremely difficult. There was no need to be concerned, as it turned out. I had some difficulty with the pins at first because I assumed they were already in the "UP" position. That was not the case. Because they come in the "DOWN" position, you must first pull all of the pins up, then rotate clockwise to set the current time, and then push down the pins to set the timeframe you want the power on for. It's fantastic, and I'm really pleased with it. In the future, I intend to purchase additional items.
I needed to turn on and off a fluorescent grow light, so I used this. The timer had stopped working after three days. I initially assumed it was a thermal circuit breaker, but it never reset. I'm trying to get it back to you as soon as possible. "GE" was my first thought. I was under the impression that "heavy duty" meant something, but I was wrong. If I had the ability, I would give this scumbag a zero-star rating.
I had an older version of this timer that worked fine for several years until the timer/ON switch broke. This one (heavy duty) was purchased in the hopes of it lasting longer. After a few months of use, the timer/ON switch hasn't broken yet, but the timer itself is proving to be very unreliable. It appears to turn things off when it should, but it rarely turns them back on when it should. A simple rotation of the timer through the 24-hour period is all that is required. After a 360-degree spin, the hour cycle will usually click the power back on, but that's hardly self-contained operation. This is a step down from the previous non-certified status. As far as I can tell, GE makes a heavy-duty version.
I purchased two of these, as well as the first. I was hoping that the "Heavy Duty" moniker would imply that it would last longer than two months. I've bought timers from other companies and thought this one would be unique. This is the worst of the bunch. I purchased two of these, and after two weeks, the first one began to make noise. After two months, the second one arrived. The noise is a mechanical grinding that gets louder over time; other timers I've bought have had the same problem, but only after a few years. I'm looking for something quiet. I'll continue my search.

Why does dark and light start at 6, then count backwards to 1, then go to 12 and count backwards to 7, when dark and light are supposed to be night/PM? Why aren't these numbers going in the direction I want them to go? This product has a grey timer, and another company has a brown timer with a correctly numbered dial for easy timer setting!.
