I'll describe the problem here because there isn't a clear way to contact the seller and ask for assistance. The remote is supposed to work up to a distance of 100 feet. The remote can turn on the outlet from a distance of up to 20 feet, but it must be turned off within 20 feet. So, if that's all you require, then fine, but I require the full, PROMISED distance. br> br> br> br> br> br br>Recent changes: I was able to contact the seller at long last: They sent another unit with the EXACT same problem, as well as a "better" upgraded version. It had an effect. However, they claim that the first one worked and that there are other electronic devices that can cause these outlets to malfunction. As an RF Engineer, I know that the FCC requires RF items to not interfere with, or be affected by, other electronics, so these units are not FCC compliant by their own admission. If you don't want poor performance and other problems, don't buy them. There are a slew of other, similar items on Amazon that will do the job for around the same price, all sold by reputable sellers.
Thankfully, no fire resulted. br>br>This occurred after only a few months of use, but it had been working intermittently for the majority of that time, so it had been gradually deteriorating until it completely failed today. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> The seller offered me a free replacement unit as a result of my negative review. It arrived today, and when I opened the case to inspect the wiring, I discovered the same defect of incomplete soldering on the neutral wire at the circuit board, which means that if I draw enough current through it, it will overheat, just like the last one.
Throughout the summer, I only used it a few times. Except for a couple of times when it wouldn't turn on for no apparent reason and I had to walk outside and push the button, the remote was fine (for a distance of 40 feet). br>br>In any case, it only just made it through the summer. I'm not sure when it went away, but it was already dead when I tried it in December. I looked inside to see if something had come loose, but it appears to be a blown capacitor (as seen in the photo). br>br>UPDATE: br>br> I contacted Dewenwils support after discovering it had a one-year warranty, and they were extremely helpful. They were quick to respond and are sending a replacement unit right away. I'm hoping it will go on for a while. A for their assistance.
Because the unit's outlet is facing down, there is no moisture getting into it. I've even gone so far as to use silicone sealant on previous units to keep them from getting wet inside, but I haven't done so on this one, despite the fact that it's been in heavy rain and sub-zero temperatures in Wisconsin. When the dogs are in the backyard, I use it to control a light on my garage, and it's also the only one with an on/off switch. When pressed or turned on with the remote, that button turns green. The other remotes I tried were usually destroyed by rain or cold temperatures, but this one is still working! This book comes highly recommended.
Because the original outlet was dead on arrival, I initially gave this product a one-star rating. I received a replacement right away, and it worked perfectly. Despite the fact that the first unit appeared to have a quality control issue, the seller responded promptly. Four stars because I had to replace an otherwise five-star product, and the seller appears to stand behind their product.
This was $11 when I purchased it. Amazon has a price of $55. I wanted to be able to turn on and off the back yard flood lights without having to go out to the shed to find the switch. It only took a few seconds to plug it in. I went inside to sit in my favorite chair and test whether the remote would work through a brick wall and over a distance of about 60 feet. Everything went smoothly. The remote has separate on and off buttons, which is a nice touch. I can see whether the flood lights are on or not, so it won't help me in this application, but if I put one of these on the heater in my greenhouse next winter, it might. Having separate buttons would help me out because I'd know whether I was turning it off or on without having to go outside and check. It's possible that I'll need to purchase another.
I have a vacuum tube amplifier on a shelf in my study with a power switch on the back side. Turning it on is simple because you can reach over it and turn the switch on, but turning it off requires sticking your arm in a narrow space with a very hot amplifier potentially touching your skin. The mini remote can be turned on or off with a single press. It's very well built, seems to handle plenty of current, and I like that it also has an on/off switch on the unit itself in case the remote batter dies or something. I'm using it inside, and I'm fairly close to the unit when I use the remote, but I tested it from the other end of a large house and it worked fine. It's very well built, seems to handle plenty of current, and I like that it also has an on/off switch on the unit itself in case the I value the other reviews on this page because they influenced my decision to purchase this model over others on Amazon.
for the duration of four months The ability to turn on outdoor string lights from the kitchen was a great convenience, but it stopped working this weekend. I suspected it was the remote, so I ran a battery test. Everything appears to be in order. The remote has a bright light that flashes. So I used a lamp to test the unit, as well as the unit's off/on button. The lamp turns on for a brief moment, the button turns green, and then the unit shorts out and shuts down almost instantly. Because the unit was outside, the weatherproofing could be an issue.
