It would be easy to assume that all doorbell transformers work the same way. That is not the case, as I discovered. The thing hummed louder than my aquarium air pump rooms away when I bought a doorbell transformer from the hardware store. Unable to mount the transformer securely (used a screw that was intended to retain the transformer against the hole in the box), it shook my whole house. As a result, I set out to find a transformer that would mount securely, be quiet, and most likely not generate harmful emissions. This transformer is all of those things, and I'm extremely glad I found it. You may also want to consider using this one if you are looking for a typical 10VA doorbell transformer. This model is UL listed as well.
It does cost more, but it does take care of the buzzing. As they say, you get what you pay for. Due to the fact that we had to toss the old transformers, the total cost was higher.
The transformer needs to be replaced.
