My 10,000-watt portable generator had a manual transfer switch that I researched the cost and limitations of, so I decided to install an interlock kit. At first, I thought about getting a transfer switch, but that would have cost over $300 and I would be limited to only 6 circuits on In order to fix the problem, I installed this interlock kit in the 200 amp Square D panels. Besides plugging the generator into an external power inlet box that is installed on the exterior of my garage, I have also installed 3 wires that feed throughout the box. During the ultra cold temperatures we experienced earlier this year, I bought a portable generator that I connected to our electricity The only issue we faced was that our Square D panel had to be mounted upside down, which prevented it from properly securing it. Without this device, you cannot install any type of transfer device. You just have to remember to retrace your steps. I was very pleased with the performance of the device.

I much prefer it to the imitation ones that are available on the market. In addition to the drilling template included, this product comes with a metal generator breaker bracket that can be mounted to the panel - some companies use a plastic tie to attach this component. As for the price, it's also less expensive than the other products. I would never consider using the other products.
