For replacing old, hard, broken thread protectors, which have been on the screws for my storm shutters for 10 years, I found these thread protectors to be the best option. As I prepared for the hurricanes this year, many old ones broke. Finding out what they were called was the most difficult part!.
While they are a bit longer than I personally needed, the storm shutter bolt covers are of high quality. The product is extraordinarily hard to come by in Florida. The ones you find are in bulk bags of 12 and are marked up to the maximum. This would only be true if you could locate them. It's hard to get any better than these, or at least not when you read some bad reviews here.
We've noticed that our home in the Florida Keys has become discolored, turning a more yellow color in no time. I would not recommend it. The whiteness of an ink brand from another company also stayed the same during the same timeframe.

As far as openings go, my items are not a quarter-inch wide and they are not stretchy. This is due to their much smaller size.
