Questions & Answers

Do I have to have a vent fan for this to work?

first ordered one so I could check the fit of the three vents I bought. Neither of the fantastic vents would fit, but the stock bathroom fan vent would, which is where the fan vent is mounted. It has worked flawlessly for two years without any problems.

Will it be able to withstand hail damage?

A hailstone that is less than 4 inches in diameter will qualify. It was only a matter of putting aluminum sheet metal on top. While it works great when it hails, it makes a lot of noise when it Instead of aluminum sheet metal, I should have used 1/4 inch sheet metal

Do you get the brackets and screws with it?

A set of screws & brackets is included. To mount the brackets properly to the aluminum vent frame, you will need a drill and hand-tighten everything, then screw everything down with a screwdriver and a small wrench.

Is this cover big enough to fit over a 14in dome? And is it possible to open the dome using the crank from within?

The cover fits over a bathroom vent that measures 14"x 14". It seems to be an industry standard. I have two vents of this size in my 5th wheel trailer (14"x14"). There is enough room in the bathroom for me to open the vent about 3/4 of the way. As far as I can tell, the vent opens and closes normally. For attaching the Camco vent cover to the vent, the cover comes with stainless steel brackets and screws. Getting it installed is not too difficult.

The last time I bought one was years ago. I came home one day and it was no longer there. was unable to figure out what I could have hit to make it come My second one is still in the mail. I noticed that it was coming off after 8 months. As I hit the ground, I thought, What am I doing? As I touched it so that it wouldn't fall on the road, I removed it. All that had happened was it My hand crumpled under the weight of it! THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO BE USED ON THE ROOF IN THE SUN, SO THE SUN RAISED THE STONES AND.

let it sit in the sun for more than two years before it crumbles

In March 2016, the item was purchased. It was installed in May 2016 and crumbled to dust by My second one turned out to be loose after I noticed one was missing, so I went and investigated the first one. Although I didn't expect it to last forever, I expected it to last for at least two seasons since it was exposed to the sun for too long.

My opinion is that this is junk

It seems that what you pay for is what you get. If I purchased this 2 years ago, I also left a review. Here is what I did At first, I was pleased with how easy the cover was to install and how it looked, but at just 2 years this cover is in the trash. As I was standing on the roof of my RV a year ago, I noticed that there were multiple hairline cracks in this cover, as well as brittleness when I tried to alleviate some stress that the nuts caused. There seemed to be something wrong with the nuts. Last night, when I was in the roof to replace some old caulking at the corner of the cap and the roof, I noticed several more cracks in the cover, especially at the base, where the cover's integrity is crucial for its bolting A few pieces were missing. Some of them had broken off. In view of the poor condition of the hat, I decided to remove it. The joke is on me. When I began loosening the nut to remove the vent cover, the lip of the cover literally broke and began to By the time I had removed all four bolts, I was lifting the button cover off the bolts, and it broke The "resin" was made of plastic and there were plenty of shards There were almost no places I could touch it without it breaking. As far as I know, I have never noticed the material that was used in its construction As a substitute, however, I compared two other vent hoods (one of which I am presently ordering from Atwood). All of these hoods are made from polyethylene and treated with ultraviolet light. Resin is used in the Camco hood. What is resin? Since my Fantastic bathroom fan was absolutely stationary for two years, I can only surmise that resin becomes brittle when exposed to sunlight. There certainly was no external force applied to the vent hood during that time. As a result, I would not recommend this vent hood based on my personal experience. That's probably what I got for my money. Learning from my mistake, I spent a few extra bucks ($59) and ordered a higher quality cover from Amazon yesterday after asking others in the discussion forum. There is a section on the Ultra Breeze page that talks about the Atwood's 'flexibility'. Camco was certainly not something I wanted to go through again. Despite the fact that the Atwood is pliable after some time spent in the sun, none of the five answers indicated that there were any complaints. Obviously, we will have to see, but it seems to me that polyetylene would be significantly more flexible and weather-proof Additionally, I would like to point out the following There was a large restriction in the airflow of the fan/vent caused by the Camco. In case anyone reading this review is interested in seeing some air flow and vent cover tests, there is a great video on YouTube showing a comparison of the Ultrabreeze cover (the one I ordered yesterday) with others. A disclaimer It should be noted that I am not affiliated with the Ultrabreeze manufacturer.

The pure garbage of the world
3/5

Two of these pieces were missing from the four I bought for my toy hauler about 2 years ago. While up in the roof doing annual maintenance, I found that two of the four were missing pieces. The 2 that were completely disintegrating and the 2 that started to crack were the two that looked like they were just starting to disintegrate. It was disappointing that these were not of a higher standard. Meanwhile, I have a maxxair on my truck camper and it is more than 6 years old and it is still in perfect condition. Do not use the Camco version.

Due to the reviews, I am skeptical

The seller won't ship the maxxair covers because of their size if you live in Alaska. I tried to order the covers online before realizing they can't be shipped to Alaska. It was possible to ship these, so I chose The issues I feel can be discussed are not yet installed, but here are a few of my thoughts. First of all, there is this There does seem to be a cheap feel to the plastic. It is obvious both from looking at it and from feeling it that it is not a higher-class product The material should be of high quality. Here are the next two numbers It is difficult to tell how thin they are. It would be reasonable to expect a cover that is going to be exposed to the elements to be a bit more durable. There is no such problem What would be my solution to keep these covers as long as possible? To prepare the cover, I will rough up the entire surface with 1000 grit sandpaper to remove the shine from the plastic. There is a can of plastic in my possession - It is going to take between three and five coats with this identical clear coat (with UV protective additives) that I will use. When I used this procedure to clean plastic headlight lenses that had fogged/oxidized, it worked like a charm. In this way, the cover can be treated with a protective UV coat prior to installation. In an attempt to remember to post pictures of the installation and procedure, I'll try to do so. There is no guarantee that I will Based on the success I've had with this in the past, I expect that these will work out well. Good luck! I'll update the post if that is the case.
