It's between 21 and 24 inches in length, I believe. It's buried under 2 feet of snow, so I can't check right now.
The narrow end goes under the house's gutter downspout, while the wider/flat end goes away from the house, diverting water away from your foundation.
It's a long piece, measuring 23 inches. I should also point out that the edge is 2 inches tall.
A rain chain should work because it directs water in the same way a downspout does. The distance between the rain chain and the splashblock, however, plays a role. There may be some water splatter if the rainchain is too high up.

In my midwestern home, I've had five of these exact same splash plates for 15 years, and while they've faded to a mottled tan over time, they're still rock-solid. The item is in good condition and is heavy duty. Even after running over the outer corners with the lawn tractor tires several times, there is no breakage, chips, or cracks. To prevent gutter overflows during the heavy rains we've had this year, I've decided to add two more downspouts. So when I couldn't find any more at any of the big box stores (HD, LWS, Mnards), I was thrilled to discover them on Amazon. I got them, and they're still the same heavy, solid material and attractive design as before, unlike all the cheap, light-weight, crappy, ugly ones I could find at the "home stores. " The extra cost was well worth it!.
It blends in with the mulch and is significantly heavier and more durable. The ones from Home Depot are better made.
My house painters discovered that not only did my air conditioner drain into my garden, but it also splashed on the wall. When I first got this splash guard, I immediately placed it under the drain spout. Because it sits on bare ground and is barely noticeable, I ordered it in "brown. " There is no installation at this time. It's in as soon as you lay it on the ground.
