Questions & Answers

Can two hangers be used on a length of cement siding of 12 feet or is it best to use four?

The two of them will work perfectly. One at the end and one at the other end. The middle four feet can be left to At both ends, this provides plenty of room for the flashing to be installed and the hanger to be removed.

Is this suitable for hardi lap siding 12" in height?

The answer is not clear to me. In case they are calibrated for a 1 Whether the overlap is 1/4 inch or not (I would assume it wouldn't matter) should not matter. It never occurred to me that Hardi produced siding in 12" width. The siding used for my job was nine inches and seven inches. The 1% is the same whether they left a 2 or a 1 As soon as I became familiar with the "correct method", I was able to achieve a 1-1/4" overlap quite easily. As a suggestion, I would like to recommend that siding panels be cut. Circular saw blades were tried on siding panels, but the dust storm and inaccurate results resulted. After I tried several things, I settled on a try-and-catch To "etch" a sheet rock surface, use a square and a sheet rock knife The siding panels were installed on BOTH SIDES. Lastly, apply stress to the "etch" in both directions at the edge of the workbench in order to "break" the panel at the correct place. With clamps, you can also use this technique for diagonal cuts. If you're going to breathe all that dust, it's much better to start with a "light etch" for accuracy, then go deeper after you establish your line. Sharpening is required on a continual basis as well. A rock knife is not a toy, it is a weapon! It is very important that you be careful when using this site. Occasionally, I will scrape off the edges of panels on concrete to smooth their I hope this has been helpful.

What are the contents of the two pack of gages?

The pack contains two of them, so you don't need to buy any more. There is nothing wrong with this product, and it is well designed.

Is this product compatible with 1/4 inch ?

A 3/8" thick piece of material will not work with this system. An 8-point Malco fits five sixteenths of an inch of However, the gauge stop where it rests on top of the previously attached siding is only 1/8". The tab might fit over 3/8" if bent, but the gauge stop where it sits on the tab may not. If you are planning to buy these things for LP only, which is gauged only on the lap, you ought to buy the ones designed to fit them. In other words, the Malco is compatible with Hardie siding in widths from 6 inches up to 10 inches. It ranges from 25 to 12 inches in height. The information provided here is intended to be For the record, I would attempt to bend the tab if I was faced with using my malco on LP siding. In my opinion, I would not purchase a set for the purpose of experimenting.

HardiePlank is not recommended for use with this product
3/5

This tool can be used for installing HardiePlank siding. Getting the plank to sit flat on the nailing tool is a problem because it is angled so far in front of the tool. As soon as the nails are nailed. A base plank is lifted off a previous plank by approximately 3/16" (rather than flush) when compared to a flush base. The gap could be even wider if you have a high nail. My installation was interrupted after installing a few courses and I ordered a Grecko gauge. When compared to the Malco tool (away from the plank), the Grecko tool has an advantage in how it is positioned on the plank (against the The plank bottom was flush with the previous one when the bottom of the plank was attached with this tool. In order to repair the lifted courses, I used a 2" finishing nail to nail the pins. It's true that the Grecko tool costs much more. However, it is well worth the extra cost.

The interface is straightforward and easy Good value for the money

Hardieplank was a good match for these. The top of the nailed siding looks like it is slipping into the deep notch at first glance. However, being 3/8 means that it wouldn't fit. I thought the Harideplanks were sent in the wrong size. After watching the video, I realized the attached video was supposed to be there. I find they work just fine for me, even though they seem to lack enough "purchase" for a board 12 feet long. The amount of tension on the board depends on how snug the sheeting is nailed to it. As a result, most of the time I had to tap my hammer onto the attached board in order to get them to fit securely and seat The ladder is not too dangerous even if you are 25 feet or more above the ground. After nailing X amount of boards up, I remember reading a review that said they did not keep the boards level once they checked. According to my experience, it's because the installer didn't tighten it correctly. Those who have worked with siding will know that if there is a fraction more nailing on one side than the other, that row is out of level by X rows. For all siding installations, after installation of X rows, check for leveling and adjust if necessary. These are really great for a one person show or two person show. I would like to address a note to those who are working with Hardiplank for the first time, particularly if they are The shear strength of Hardieplank is not very high. This is especially true in hot summer weather. Even if you're standing on the ground, the 12 ft boards are easy to hang. It's not as easy when you take up a ladder and try to set it. Using boards that measure 10 feet is much easier than carrying them up and setting them up.

Compared to other gauges, this one worked great for a fraction of the price
5/5

recently bought these gauges to assist me with putting fiber cement lap siding on the shed that I am finishing now. $60 for gauges I would most likely never use again was not worth it to me. These were found while I was watching a YouTube video on making homemade gauges. Although the screws are only about 20 bucks, I was worried they wouldn't work since no one was using them in any of the YouTube videos I watched on installing fiber cement board, but they actually worked well. There is just one issue to be aware of making sure ink teeth are flush with the board. Setting them on the board takes only a moment to get used to. Taking them off the board takes caution, but once you figure it out, it becomes a breeze. I have just about finished my 16x12 shed, and I have used them on almost every board. Working by myself, I cannot imagine working without them. You are given about an inch and a quarter overlap which on my 8 would be about right. 7 inches of reveal is what I get when I install 25 inch siding.

I wasted both my time and money on that
3/5

The packages were in good condition and the products arrived on time. Several weeks later, I began using them, but everything was fine until I took out the level from By manually modifying the next row, I was able to get the chart back on track and begin using it Here are the two rows after that. I am experiencing the same problem. We held the two together and discovered that one of them was sagging right out of the package due to the way it was bent. It was only a matter of time before I got gecko gauges, as I should have done.

For those with a keen eye for detail, this is a great tool
4/5

In the picture (1 yellow), you can see the correct mounting point for Pictures (2) are not intended for installation, but rather for removing the hanger once it has been installed. This is the button to press in order to enable you to remove the clip from the fiber cement siding in pic (3). As you can see in pic (4), we've got three tabs/teeth, or whatever you'd like to call them. The middle one, however, is longer and will place behind your lower siding while the ones on either side will sit on top. As long as they are placed correctly and sit level on the existing piece, all the weight of 12' siding can be handled. In fact, the one-man operation required to hang 12' siding is not difficult. In the instructions and detailed information I received (when blind nailing), there was no mention of the gap that sometimes occurs at the bottom edge of the board. It happens a lot, but if you can hang it with clips and a nail, you won't need more than one nail. [ (one) nail can hold siding up, and the (one) nail can also pivot the other end in order to remain Whenever I applied my one nail, I randomly checked the reveal first, about 18" to 20" in length I would place my hanger 24" away from my clip/hanger and then remove the first hanger, then move to the opposite end, prepare to nail this side, and then remove my other clip before checking to be sure the siding laid flat on itself with no gap on the underside. It wasn't on every piece of work that there were gaps, but there were too many for me to ignore and I didn't want to add finish nails in the face again. The only time I had trouble using this hanger/clip was when I moved around and installed siding on ladders I applied one nail and removed the clip before nailing the siding off to the studs. Overall, these things are good even if they are a bit costly. It seems to me that they work well, so I will continue to use mine as long as I take precautions and am attentive.

Meeting or exceeding For hanging Hardie, this tool is a must-have
5/5

With this tool, I was able to install siding on our entire garage without getting any help. This is a well-made product. After putting one hanger approximately 3 feet from both ends of the piece to be hung, I found that it was the most effective way of using it. The piece should be placed on the hangers, and then the one nail should be used at the end. Pull up the hanger and away from the nail so that it is no longer attached. As the hangers are removed from the other end, hold the other end up while applying a nail with a nail gun. Nail the board down, one nail per stud 16 inches apart. The only mistake you can make is to nail the board down with the hangers still attached. That's not the way to do it. It is well worth the price, don't even think of making something similar to There is no better way.
