Questions & Answers

Is it possible to mount this on top of a rectangular box?

It attaches to the siding with a clip. It should also be large enough to cover the box in terms of both width and height. You should be able to mount it to the box by drilling holes through it. I usually drill a hole in the siding and insert the wire through it. Also, the mount kit can be used as a junction box.

How much weight can it support?

There is no weight rating on the Arlington spec sheet. The weight it can support is largely determined by the wood behind your siding and the screws you use to secure it. The fixture mounting is your only limit if you're using large pan head wood screws in solid plywood. br>Most fixtures are secured to the Arlington block with a round screw plate and two electrical box screws. The fixture is then secured with two thumb nuts, and any typical residential UL outdoor light should be simple to install and maintain. If you have an oversize light fixture, check with the manufacturer to see what mounting method they recommend.

Is there a grey version available?

You'll have to prime and paint it if you want it to be a different color.

When the photos show "horizontal siding," why is this mounting block called "vertical siding"?

I had no problems installing three exterior lights on newly installed Horizontal siding using these mounts. I don't see why they wouldn't work on vertical installations if they're overlapped. The most important feature is to get a mount that fits the overlap thickness of the siding. Mine was a 5/16" lap and it was the perfect fit. Other sizes of laps are also available.

Great product; I used a couple of these kits to fix a shoddy outdoor wall lighting installation on my house
5/5

The builder had simply nailed a couple of flood lights to the siding. UGH - What was he thinking when he said that? These mounting kits are easy to use and help to keep the lighting installation looking neat and professional. I'm glad I bought a couple of these kits, and I can strongly recommend them based on my own experience. Before you order, make sure you know your siding profile and dimensions, as the kit must be matched EXACTLY to achieve a good result. Also, make sure you know how to safely work on your household wiring! Hire a professional electrician if you don't have one or aren't qualified to do so. Continue to be cautious.

Examining the services of a Master Electrician in a residential setting

These have worked well for me in the past. Simply screw the siding in place and, if desired, silicone it in place. br>br>However, this time I ordered the 1/2" model, which arrived in the correct package, but the actual product was for a flat installation. I bought it on Amazon because I needed it right away. They failed to deliver, which is why I gave them a one-star rating.

This is a terrible match
3/5

I ordered the correct size for my siding, but the back of the electrical box protrudes far enough to prevent a weathertight fit. Take a look at the photos that other reviewers have posted. Most have large globs of caulk to fill in the gaps caused by the poor fit, or there is an unacceptable spacing that allows rain/snow to get behind the block. I paid $12 at Lowes for a much better-fitting and-looking block.

This is a useful item that simplifies life

In general, if you need to mount something on siding, this is probably the best option. I had a light that I spent an hour cutting the hole out of so that I could mount it. I came across these on Amazon, and BAM! Lights can now be installed without having to cut siding. I intend to purchase more since I am in the process of replacing all of my exterior lights. I would have given it five stars if the plastic didn't appear to be easily breakable, so extra caution is required, and the mounting holes are rigid. I had to screw through the plastic to make these work because I was using them over old holes. Furthermore, the opening is about an eighth of an inch too large. The lights I had were only just big enough to cover the gap.

Nice product; I just had a company install James Hardie cement lap siding on my house, and I wanted something better than the plastic exterior light mounting piece that this particular company uses
4/5

br>These are very sturdy and match the slope of my lap siding almost perfectly. br>You could use a small amount of chalking to fill in any gaps, or you could do what I did and trim down the back of the mounts to fit my siding perfectly. br>It wasn't difficult or time-consuming to complete; You'll only have to do it once. br>TIP***: If you are looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words If you're going to paint the mounts, I'd recommend scuffing up the surface with fine sandpaper to give the paint a good "key. " I was able to find some spray paint at Home Depot that was nearly identical to my siding; which had been pre-painted at the factory.

Installing it was a breeze
5/5

Excellent craftsmanship. It's simple to put together, thick enough to prevent cracking, and designed with precise hole placement to ensure a straight installation. There are three holes across the box for you to choose from so that wired feeds through in the best possible position. In my case, this is a good option because the previous light was installed incorrectly over new siding that I had installed on my house many years ago by the person who put up the siding. I was able to cover up his mistake of cutting the siding in a difficult-to-cover area. New mounting kit is a result of his shoddy workmanship, which I was unaware of until I replaced the light. Now everything is in place.

Fits nicely over siding and provides a solid foundation for larger lights
5/5

My house is nearly 25 years old, and the builder used tiny light mount rings on top of the siding that could barely hold a single bulb porch light. Anything with a base diameter greater than the width of a siding panel was out. br>br>I came across these while searching and thought they were the ideal solution for providing a stable vertical base for more modern, heavier cameras like the Ring cam. br>br>Installation was simple; I didn't have a junction box behind the siding, so I just zipped it into the wood with the supplied screws. Before you mount your light, have a tube of silicone caulk on hand to seal around the base. However, because there is a weep hole at the bottom, do not seal it. That's all there is to it. br>br>That's all there is to it. In comparison to the tiny cap the builder had on there before (see photo), I can now mount a larger base light without worry, and I have more room to stuff the excess wires.

Installing a security light on cedar clapboards has never been easier or more attractive
5/5

I figured I'd have to cut a large through-hole in the siding and recess a mounting plate. An electrical box will be installed in this hole. I simply screwed it to the wall (screws included) and drilled a hole large enough for the cable to pass through. It has enough space inside to accommodate the wire nut connections. The wires where they come through were sealed with silicone. It's powerful, well-organized, and a huge time saver.
